This is a moral question... |
| |
| Let's say you bought a vacuum 2 weeks ago. When you excitedly open up the box and put it together, it doesn't work. You try all you can think of to make it start, but fail. So you call the company and talk to someone, they ask you a series of questions and when you tell them what they need to know they tell you that they are going to send you a paid postage label and you needed to return the vacuum to them so they can fix it. After they receive the vacuum they will then send you a replacement, and ALL of this is suppose to take 7-10 business days each time. So you have to wait that long for the label, then you have to wait that long for them to receive the vacuum, then you have to wait that long to receive your new vacuum...it seems like a very long and tiring process. So you decide to exchange it at the store you bought it from, but then your significant other fixes it...YAY!! Ok. Two days later, the label arrives. Then two more days after that, shocking as it is, the vacuum is on your front porch. So HERE is my question. Would you actually take the label they sent you and send it back, or would you do the despicable thing and KEEP IT (mwa ha ha ha!!) I'm just really curious!! And I want honest answers people!!! | | | | | |

| | I'm confused. You say it didn't work, so you contacted them and they were going to send you a new one AFTER receiving the old one back. Are you saying you got the new one without sending the other one back? And you said you returned it to the store, but your husband fixed it. Can't be both, so which is it? Anyway - if I got another machine to replace one that was supposedly broken, I'd send one back. No question about it. | | | | | | |

| | Pretty much what it boils down to is that I thought my vacuum was broken, called the company, they sent me a replacement...so now I have 2 vacuums. I said that I was GOING to return it BUT my fiance fixed it so there was no need to return it. I really didn't think I made that too confusing!! Thanks for your honest response about sending it back | | | |

| | I would try the new one to make sure it worked without a problem then I would keep that one and send the "fixed" one back as it obviously was a lemon needing to be fixed when it was brand new. Who knows what later problems it might develop. I could never keep the 2nd one as my conscience would drive me crazy knowing I had really really stolen one of the vacuums. | | | | | | |

| | That's what I felt when they told me that they'd refurbish it and then send it back to me, that I'd have to try the new one out to make sure it worked! I thought they were going to take my broken-a$$ vacuum, re-fix it, and then send it back!! I was totally surprised to see a new one on my porch. But since the original one that we bought works just fine now, I'm stuck with both of them I have both good and evil talking to me right now, that's why I'm asking. But because I would feel guilty I'm gonna return it. I was just wondering what others would do. | | | |

| | I agree that it would be very easy to say that you never got it, good verses evil type thing, I think anyone would think about it. I went someplace and I saw a pair of glasses that dated back to the 1700s and it was so tempting to steal them, I thought about it, and I can't believe that someone hasn't tried to steal them.....because they are small and would make an easy thing to get away with. But its not right, and while I thought about it I would never do it.... Its understandable to have those feelings, I would send a note with the broken vacuum, telling them what your fiance did to fix it, and that you appreciate their taking the time to send a new vacuum cleaner, but you are sending the one back that you originally bought because it came broke, and you don't know if that it will stay 'fixed'. | | Wow, glasses from the 1700's!! Now that would be hard not to get a five finger discount!! But like you, it's tempting but no. Just like with me right now, it's tempting but...to be continued! LoL. | | | |

| | honestly? I would keep it! I would keep them both or I might donate the one SO fixed and keep the brand new one that works for myself It was their mix up if they sent you the new vacuum without receiving the old one first. Are they going to bill you if you dont return the other one? | | | | | | |

| | LMFAO!! You are my evil side speaking out!! I want to keep it but my fiance is tell me not to...they sent me a paid postage label. Now how they are going to bill me is a mystery to me. I don't remember giving any personal information other than where I live...you know, like my SSN. So I don't know how it would work if they do bill me. | | | |

| | When my cell phone broke I called the insurance company and requested a new one. They sent it out no problem, but with one caveat: I had to send them the broken phone in the prepaid box the provided or be charged for the new phone. Now, if they are going to charge you for the new vac, then return the old one as soon as possible. But if they're not going to charge you for it and your conscience isnt' too taxed, then I wouldn't worry about it. Two vaccuums are pretty handy, especially if you have stairs. I like to keep a vac upstairs so I don't have to haul my Kirby around (they're really heavy) | | | | | | |

| | Ya, the cell phone I understand. We got our cell phones through At&t and I HAVE to return them if something happens because they will bill me (my phone and internet is through them as well so there would be no escaping them!!). But this, this was done over the phone with no credit card and I don't remember giving them any info. Like I said in the post above, I don't remember giving my SSN or anything like THAT. They would probably just send me something in the mail if I didn't...but then my evil side can say that I did send it and it's not MY fault if they didn't get it!! OOORRRR I could say that I never even got the other vacuum or saw it on my porch...he he he. I've been doing some major thinking on this one, can you tell? | | | |

| | LOL..all this thinking just means that you are a good girl and aren't used to a life of crime... I wouldn't worry about returning the other vac; if they were worried they would have waited until they received the old one before sending out the new one. So enjoy your "twofer" special. But be careful; hubby's going to expect you to vacuum for sure now! | | | |

| | Depends on if I could get charged for it or not. I noticed another poster made a comment about cell phones. Our plan is through Verizon and my husband is bad about dropping his phones and they shatter. Verizon won't replace a phone if you drop it, but if you accidentally run over it, they'll replace it. Not knowing this, we called Verizon since we had just bought the phone for my husband and it 'fell' out of his pocket and the screen shattered. The woman on the phone was asking all sorts of questions and my husband was giving short answers on the phone to her. When he got off the phone with her, he stated that he had to re-break his phone as when he sent it back, they'd know if it was dropped or not. My son, all of 7 years old at the time, came up with the idea for us to run over it with my husband's truck. So we all went outside, dropped phone in hand, and ran over it a few times with my husband's truck. A day later, the new phone arrived and my husband put his SIM card in and it worked great. He sent back the ran over/dropped phone and a few days later we got a call from Verizon letting us know that they had indeed determined that it was ran over on accident. Gee. Wonder how they came to that conclusion? Was it the fact that it was in 3 pieces and had tire marks all over it? But if I was going to get charged for it, I'd send it back. Cell phone repair shops are a dime a dozen here in town and eBay has phones for sale w/o service contracts that are cheap and if I knew we'd be billed $350 for that little piece of plastic and wires, I'd have just bought one off of eBay. | | | | | | |

| | Wow! Ya I'm definitely scared to break mine. It doesn't cost that much, but enough that we wouldn't be able to afford replacing them. I didn't know that an "accidental" running over would be covered! It's funny what they cover and what they don't. | | | |

| | That’s a common scenario really, considering the quality of products on today’s market…If your handy man is anything like my handy man, I’d send them back the one that was fixed. Because, if the vacuum didn’t work when you bought it, that would tell me there could be something wrong with the manufacturing of it. It might work great for a week, maybe a month, maybe in 3; however, if you keep it, it will send a red flag up with the company so any future problems you have they can balk or string it along so any repairs needed will not be covered by the manufacturers warranty. For the sake of being honest and securing a good relationship with a company for future problems, I’d send back the one that was fixed. | | | | | | |

| | Ya, it's the cheapest one out there...Bissell for $45 at Walmart. I know that I'm getting cheap, the first one I got lasted 3 years, but I put that poor thing through hell and back from new carpet, wet new carpet, to piles of that clumping kitty litter (you know how cats manage to get it outside the box). On the day before we moved last year it decides to stop working so I bought another one (same kind). Well we forgot to pack it and left it with my MIL, and when we got it back in September THAT one was broken...well the hose was clogged, but when it got fixed it didn't work right and that's why I bought this new one. Same brand, but bagless. I think that with all the problems I have had with this brand I'm gonna go with a much better kind next time. I guess they kind of showed me how flaky they really are as a company because they did after all send me the replacement BEFORE they got the broken one...and their vacuums suck after a while. | | | |

| | I would feel obligated to send the vacuum cleaner back either one of them would do, while it would be tempting to keep the vacuum or say that you never received it, hey stuff gets stolen all the time from front porches, I have to say right now that I don't think I could keep it with a good concious.
