Habitat for Humanity is a good program. Except sometimes people can volunteer only on Monday through Friday. Once I made a donation and it triggered floods of donation requests from Habitat and other organization. So I would suggest an anonymous donations to them.
Otherwise, the program is good where a volunteer can have a sense of fulfillment of meeting a challenge of building a house for the needy.

i think give money is the wrong way , you should go close to those you want to help, when you give money tat money is used in "one shot" so that money totally lost , you must be close to the needy they will saw you and start with the question " why do you help me ? " and some of them will understand how to overcome their hardship because the true need is a guide or a companion on the journey.

Sometimes money is not the best way to help them. There may be addictions and such and then if we give them money we are not really helping them if they are just going to use it for their addiction which I think happens alot of the time. At my church we have a ministry where we give bags of groceries out to people in need who come to the service. I like doing that because then I know I am truely helping the people.
