Hi! I'll be travelling to US to meet my kids sometime in 2-3 months...Can you suggest tips to avoid jet-lag because last time when I came back I was extremely tired and would sleep for hours and hours..it took me 10 days to recover fully.

To avoid jet lag I do stopovers on the way to my destination and this breaks up my journey quite nicely. I consider the time my flight leaves and have a long sleep before that. Say my flight leaves at 3 in the morning I will sleep from 2 in the afternoon until 11 in the evening. During my flight I drink plenty of water. When I arrive I keep to local timing rather than what time it would be in my home country. I flew round the world from London stopping at Los Angeles, Hawaii, Fiji, Sydney, Adelaide, Darwin and Singapore. The hardest legs of these were London to Los Angeles 12 hours and Singapore to London 14 hours. Flying through many time zones like that is tiring. I flew from London to New Zealand stopping off at Los Angles, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Auckland, Christchurch, Samoa and Los Angeles. The stopovers in the Pacific were at early times in the morning like 2 or 3. I felt less jet lag on that trip for all I have learned about resting before a flight and keeping to local time. Good luck flying to the USA and maybe consider planning a couple of stopovers in Europe.

Wow what kind of job do you have that allows you to travel so much. I would love that kind of job. I like to travel to new countries. I have only been to Holland and Thailand, I live in the USA. I would love to go to more Europeon countries. Where do you live?

I am a primary school teacher. I really love traveling and go in the school holidays that are in the summer, at Christmas and at Easter. In the past I did a teaching contract from April to October with the six week school holiday on full pay then I took a trip for a few months to New Zealand. A colleague left her teaching job to go off to Australia. I met her again about a year later when I was teaching at another school and she was showing sports equipment to my school.

It all depends on your destination, set your clock for your destination time zone, and sleep according to that. If it is a daytime flight, try to keep yourself busy and active. Avoid sleeping, especially if you will be arriving at your final destination at night, this will keep your body requlated. However, the opposite is true if you have a night time flight and will be arriving in the daytime. If you do arrive during the daytime, try not to sleep, go outside and get some fresh air. This will help alter your body clock and regulate yourself much faster. Talk to your doctor about melatonin pills. Melatonin is produced naturally in our bodies and lets us now when we are supposed to be awake or sleeping. HAve a safe flight and I do hope you enjoy your time here :)
