Do you insure your collection?

Have several collections of variousbits and peices myself. i really should get seperate insurance, but at the moment they are just insured under general buildings and contents insurace.

Depends what kind of collections you have - I know that there are specialist insurers for stamps and coins, and normally advertise in magazines

I have several collections at the moment. I have been collecting all 3 items since I was in elementary school(about 20 years or so).

There are several places where you can insure them. The previous poster is correct about there being literally hundreds of places to insure your items. I would try and find a magazine about your collection and look in the back at the ads, that will give you a starting place to look.

Be sure to look at the deductible and what the policy covers, especially for loss and damage. If you can, get as much information on each policy you are interested in, and then make a pro and con sheet for each one and compare.

Whichever you choose, you will need to make a comprehensive list of what you have. I listed the item, item number if I could find it, the 1-800 contact number for the product in case I needed it later, and the price I paid. If I could find the receipt I saved that as well. Keep this in a place other than where your collection is, like a Safe Deposit box at the bank, or even at a friend or familys house.

The list took forever, but you will get more back from your insurance company if anything does happen to your collection.

I never did because you need to sumbit a list of all your things and then submit a list everytime you bought something new. But I guess its a good idea.
