giving up smoking

I was a heavy smoker for the past three decades. Now I am forced to quit smoking following the onset of a heart attack. Quite surprisingly I have no craving for a smoke since the past six months and I am beginning to forget that I was a smoker.

I remembered the days when I was a smoker and stopped smoking too. It was hard. I think I understand what you are going through with the "smoking thing" in your head. I think you are either too stressed or too free.=P During those times, when I was stressed or too free, I always think of smoking, even a puff will do for me. But, like you too, I don't give in to my thoughts. What I did was I did a lot of things. Those were the times when I:
- picked up a gym membership and go to gym almost every night
- picked up a hobby, toy modeling - Gundam in fact
- learned to cook; more like a survival cooking as I am living by myself

Perhaps you could try to get your hands full with something that you enjoy now or something that you wanted to try, then the smoking thoughts will gradually gone.

I was a chain smoker since i was a teen but i quitted since begun my pregnancy and until now after i gave birth to my baby i never crave for a cigarette anymore.
