I ate rice all of my life. I came from a country which staple food is rice. I migrated here in the US to marry the love of my life. Now I am in a culture shock. Their staple is potatoes. I like potatoes in some ways... chips, roasted with garlic and spices in EVOO, fries. But I just can't eat mashed potatoes. I don't know. I just won't go through my throat and I would choke. Help me... how will I be able to eat mashed potatoes without choking and will love it like the rice I am used to? Any recipe you can suggest that would work for me or to impress my in-laws? Thanks.

This IS NOT meant to be funny...but in Canada, we have a "potatoe ricer" and when you force the cooked potatoes thru the ricer, they come out looking like grains of rice......possible just having the visual appearance of rice might be a help!

wow... can I buy the potatoe ricer from Wal-mart? this might work.. and I can't perhaps put some spices, EVOO and other seasoning to make it taste good because I don't like the taste too that is why I can't eat it.

I don't know about Wal-Mart, but any kitchen specialty store, would be sure to have them. I think it is a very British (English) way of doing potatoes.

In a palce like India, the potatoes are considered as vegetable for preparing side dish and it can never be staple food. In India, the most south Indians prefer rice as staple food and north Indian prefer wheat as staple food. Along with rice, we eat food prepared out of Ragi, wheat etc. but cannot live with potatoes.
