A friend of mine was given an IBM Aptiva 2159 computer but we can't figure out how it turns on! It's the black tower one, and there are no visible buttons to push. The "media centre" is a separate device with the floppy and dvd drives. It, too, has no switches. I searched all over the net but couldn't find any info. Even the IBM site was useless.
I tried prying everywhere on the case but didn't find anything that moved. I put a query out to someone selling the "media
component" on ebay and they said it uses a power button on the keyboard (which wasn't included). Personally, I think it's a piece of
junk. I mean, the tower is large enough, but then the floppy and dvd drives have their own unit, about the size of a small vcr, and there seems to be a large power adaptor for it, too. It's going to take up a heck of a lot of room in an already crowded house. Give me a Mac any day!Can anyone tell me why they didn't put the two drives in the tower?

Because that computer is ancient. The 2159 "stealth" series was a unique all black design with a console underneath that contained the floppy and cd drives. This plugged into the main unit with a 6 foot cable. It wasn't until later in production that they went to a tower-style eliminating the separate console. These computers are also Windows 3.1 computers which would be totally useless to you or anyone else. Basically, you have a boat anchor. Now do you have the boat? :)

Thanks for answering and basically confirming my opinion. Now I have to convince my friend's daughter. She was going to buy a new computer but wasn't sure which one. I suggested she look into a used one but she said she didn't trust anything used... I guess she mentioned getting a computer to her dad, who by all accounts is a cheapskate, and he said he would give her one of his...
