Tourists from all over the world flocked to Bens delicatessan in droves, two prime ministers ate their, leonard cohen ate their bette middler ate their, many many celebrities ate there.
It was closed down last year. The property has has been purchased by land developers. They want to tear the building down.
But the building is classic art deco, montreal is known as one of the 10 cities in the world that is famous for art deco, the university of montreal is build in the art deco motif.
There is a petition signed by people from all over the world who do not want the bens building torn down.
Do you think it should be torn down or not?

I think I have been to Ben's many years ago. No, this art deco building should not be torn down. People should mobilize and protest against it, form pressure groups to prevent the destruction. I remember in the 60ties when the Eaton Centre in Toronto was built they wanted to tear down old City Hall a beautiful sandstone building and only leave the facade. There was a massive protest group and the design of the development was changed. Now that I live in the T.O. area I admire this building each time I go downtown. Save Ben's!

I remember when eaton's head office left montreal for toronto because of the french situation here.
I believe the old building is still up and we have a new underground complex called the eaton center now.
