"Super Troopers" is a funny comedy.. with unknown individuals who are part of "Broken Lizard". Which is a comedy group consisting of five members, who are: Erik Stolhanske, Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, and Paul Soter. This group, led by Chandrasekhar who has directed all tree B.L. movies, create movies that resemble National Lampoon. You can describe them as slapstick, juvenile, low brow humor. The movie that started them off was a university love story called "Puddle Cruiser". Most recently you can find the Broken Lizard group in the newly released "Beerfest". But the one that has gotten the most attention has been "Super Troopers". Which is a low income comedy.. but with high paying funny. Supa Troopa In this movie, the members of B.L. play as: Thorny, Mac, Rabbit, Foster and Farva who are Vermont State Troopers. Since the station where they are planted is a remote area (Spurbury) near Canada, the troopers find that it can get pretty boring. That is apart from the few passerbyers. Which is where they let the imagination ride. Since the police work for them is scarce.. They intend to make the best of a situation and just have a jolly good time. How? They let their inner prankster loose, as if they were back in high school. But unfortunately, that is what gets them in a heap of trouble. Because of the incessant shenanigans, and the need for budget cuts, they now find themselves up against loosing their "wage making activity" and the locals Spurbury P.D. who are aching at the opportunity to suck up all the extra budget figures they can grab. In the middle of all this, a crime occurs that could salvage the Trooper Station and they jump into action to try to save the day and be able to continue as the "Supa Troopas". Short and to the point, "Super Troopers" is a funny movie that lends itself for a good time. It is low budget, and as one, it overachieves. It makes good with the low amount of scenery it holds. It uses physical comedy and good humor dialog, to make up for the lack of versatility in budget. The script is great. It holds many fantastic funny lines. The movie holds a story that is far fetched, but not so much as to where it is deemed unbelievable. Just an exaggeration. The movie is 100 minutes, but you wont even realize it. It seems much more short because it has a great amount of fluidity and forgets any muddling slow dialog pieces. It's a fun ride, where you laugh and chuckle and wish that there would be another one like it. And let me tell you that the movie Broken Lizard created next, was far from the funny, when compared to this one. It was "Club Dread". That movie was the opposite of this one. It was too long, slow in pace, and was not very funny. Thankfully, in 2008, the sequel to "Super Troopers" is coming out. Hopefully it will be as funny and whimsy as the first one was.
