potty training |
|
Well, I've started potty training my 2 year old daughter. My son was pretty tough. I tried and tried with him but it seemed like once he was ready it went pretty well. My daughter was completely different though. No matter what I tried I could not keep a diaper on that child. She was constantly taking it off and going tinkle in the floor, usually in the middle of her bedroom. So I thought maybe she's trying to tell me she was ready to potty train. She just turned 2 at the end of October. I've worked with her a little but not that much. I thought that since my son wasn't ready when I tried with him that she wouldn't be as well. This past week I've put panties on her (except at nap time and bedtime when she wears a diaper) and she's done great! Of course she still has accidents about once a day when she gets too busy playing, but that's about it! What a surprise! It's going to be a lot easier than I thought! I guess once again I am amazed at how different 2 kids can be even when they come from the same exact genes. have you had any funny potty training stories?

1. steffyhoney (646) | 2 years ago | My daughter was easy to potty train. We started her when she was just about 18 months. She was done with it before she turned 2. However shes almost 4 and still goes at night. I dont know how to stop that ive tried everything. She will be starting school though so im hoping that changes that. I realized that boys are much harder to train then girls. All my friends have boys and they wont give in no matter what.

2. homegrowntexasgirl (466) | 2 years ago | My daughter was the same I just couldn't keep a diaper there were a few times I tried tape but she still manage to get out of that too. She also took to the potty real well. I think that was because she wasn't around other little kids only adults. She would go in the bathroom with me so I guess she figured she would rather use the potty than a diaper.

britany_renee (109) | 2 years ago | i think that is why my daughter is doing so well. They only kids she is around are her brother and her step siblings (every other weekend)...she thinks she's just as big as they are. lol.

3. nishdan01 (2378) | 2 years ago | My son was potty trained at 22 months. He is going to be 2 years in few days. He has develioped control and now I use diaper during night only. If we go out we use diapers for him, but avoids that usage while going to near by places for less than an hour. I tell you that my work has become much simpler these days.

4. aseretdd (6864) | 2 years ago | I am still in the process of potty training my 22 month old baby... but i think she is not ready yet... she has this potty trainer... but she treats it like a car...she only peed there once... then never again... and she wouldn't sit there long enough for her to pee... so i end up putting a diaper on her all the time...
Well, maybe she is not yet ready... or i just have to try and try... again and again...

britany_renee (109) | 2 years ago | that's exactly what my daughter did. She would scream and through a fit that she wanted to go potty when I would take my 3 year old son and then she would sit there for like 2 seconds and say she was done even though she hadn't "gone" yet.

6. mom4kids (525) | 2 years ago | Potty training is a nightmare! For me anyways. Right now I'm in the process of training my 2 year old, also turned two in Oct. She started at about 18 months and was going everyday a few times a day, now it's awesome if she goes once a day. My son, 4 is still being trained for night time. 2 days dry in a row! Getting them to poop is the hardest. My son always did it in his pullup. We tried everything to get him to go on the potty. He was 3 and still pooping his pants! My brother in law and his girlfriend came for a visit from a nieghboring town and she said to him, Josh, I'll give you 5 bucks if you poop on the potty. Of course he did it. We had tried paying him but I guess it just took an outsider. After that he was pretty much trained.

britany_renee (109) | 2 years ago | that's so funny that u tried paying him! When my son was learning, we would make a big ordeal about it and give high fives. that was enough for him. then when he found out he could stand to pee he was excited and wanted to go "try" every 15 minutes! lol. we had started him sitting down cause i thought maybe it would be easier to grasp the concept. He never pooped in his pants but he never pooped in the potty either. He would take off his undies and do it in the floor of his bedroom! every night before bed I would have to goon one last "poop hunt" to make sure I didn't miss any durin the day! gross! Whoever said being a mother was a glamorous job....

7. castratton (115) | 2 years ago | I wish i had a funny potty training story because that would mean my son was using the potty. He is 2 1/2, we bought the potty about 4 months ago when our youngest was a month old figuring the oldest was use to the new change in the family time to try potty training. First he used it as toybox so about 40 times a day you would hear me saying "(insert name of toy here) does not go in the potty. We do pee and poop on the potty." Then he took the potty insert part out and wore it as a hat. So since all that I've gotten him to sit on it a couple of times but he has done nothing in it. Whenever I ask him if he wants to use it or suggest that he should be using it he screams NO at me. I'm starting to get worried because even though I don't expect him to be trained yet I thought we would at least be started by now.

mom4kids (525) | 2 years ago | it doesn't sound like he's ready. I have potty trained 2 and am on # 3. I'd put the potty away for a month or something. Take it back out and tell him what its for, I always gave my kids a candy or some sort of treat each time they went at first and then stopped after awhile and had a sticker chart for them. Make a really big deal about it when he does go for the first time. We used party blowers and clapped our hands when my son went for the first time. If you try to force them when they are not ready, they can and most likely will regress greatly. Is there anybody that he knows that is potty trained? I have done that before, "so and so uses the potty, your a big boy too, lets use the potty. Potty training for me is a nightmare!!! I'm only half done:( but hopefully the other two will go more smoothly from learning what works and what doesn't.

britany_renee (109) | 2 years ago | that is funny! we bought a potty chair (sounds similar to the one you have) and through both kids it's only been used once. they just didn't like it. We've used the 'big boy/girl' potty every time. On our training potty (probably like yours) the bottom half separates and can be used as a step stool. We use that part when we are brushing our teeth cause the kids like to "spit"...but they also use it to put water in and dump on their bedroom floor...or to stand on and get into everything they're not supposed to...or use as a toybox...or turn in upside down (like when used as a toybox) and one sits in it and the other pushes it around. When they "drive" past me they usually say "I'm going to the grocery store", or "Need anything from wal-mart?", or "i'm going to work mommy. See you later". The things that amuse kids...
