Dear Friends and MyLotters, I am looking for suggestins and advice from those who know about sending money overseas. Now and then I have received money as a gift (when I was a child mostly) from friends or relatives overseas, in foreign cash, which you'd take to the bank, and they would charge you an X amount for that, hidden in the exchance rate. Also others wire money over. Some send checks, some send cash, but it's dangerous in an envelope. Some do the West Union (which charges like crazy), etc. If I wanted to give a big of money as a gift to somebody overseas, how would you recommend, for least charges. I am not well off, so I can't send much at all. And some places, it's not worth, as they charge up to $50 for transfer, etc. Do you think a check would work, or would that cost too much? If you haven't read my other discussion about this touching story about a lion, that draws me so much to do something in praise, if I can ever find out about the story more. It's in Columbia. Site about a woman who took in a dying lion from the wold. She nursed him daily back to health. Then finally she took him to live in a sanctuary. If you see the film, it is so touching. If you know anymore info about it, or how to contact them, please let me know also! www.telestereo.com/Archivos/video.html is the website where you can see the response of lion, when the woman visited him! Either way, for any future needs to send money as gifts or so to friends/family, oversease, please let me know. I don't want to tap into anybody's bank account, so that method wouldn't work. Greatly Appreciated.

You are right, West Union really charges high and their service isn't very good in my opinion. Perhaps you can send money via Paypal? Just suppose that the receiver is like a "seller" and you just pay for the products you are going to "buy"?

youless, Thanks so much for responding to this too. You're so nice! Yes, I am looking into PayPal. I will repost about when I have a chance about that Lion story I tried to post (with wrong address typed, since I can't do copy and paste yet). It is to that woman and lion that I want to donate to. I do not know if they have PayPal in Columbia, but we'll see. Thanks :)
