Why favre retired! email this discussion to a friend?

shtdrs (7)2 years ago

"I know i can still play, but it is like i told my wife,I am juse tired mentaly,I am just tired."That's Favre's announce of his retired.
Why?Why he said so?What things make he tired?
WE all know he is a very very good football player,a MVP in Packer's history,a first ballot hall of famer.
17 years is a long time, maybe he is too old to play football.but he is the soul of Green Bay Packer,NOW who can replaced him?

There aren't many players in the NFL that can say that they played 17 great seasons. And there definitely isn't many quarterbacks. Favre is going out as one of the greatest. I never really was a fan of his up until the past few years, seeing what he could do even being older. I was a Marino fan and still think he is possibly one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time but Favre broke his yardage record and his touchdown record. There is no denying that Favre will make it into the Hall of Fame in 2013 when he becomes eligible.

Now as to why he retired? Of course he could still play. He is still in great shape. But I can see why he is tired. This is a man who really hasn't had time to relax in 17 years. Think about it, he has had 2 or 3 months off a year before he has to be back into training camp and in those couple months he has had to continue working to stay in shape being as old as he is. It is a hard profession to be in when you have a family like he does, now he is able to spend time with his wife and two daughters. He missed out on a lot with his oldest daughter when he was in college and his first few years in the league. I think that was getting to him and he has accomplished so much and just wants to sit back and enjoy the life he made.

Playing that long, particularly at QB, is pretty hard. He's had trouble, and although he is obviously still competetive and athletic, it is time for the next generation in Packers quarterbacks. I believe it will be Aaron Rodgers who they drafted in the first round several years ago in anticipation for this moment. He filled in admirably in the past couple seasons and I think he can get the job done with the strong Packers team Favre is leaving behind.

I'm glad he retired on his own terms. A lot of people questioned why he did it considering the year they had last year. The answer is simple, there's no guarantee they will repeat that success next year and he wanted to go out on a winning note.
