Hope you can help me. My twelve year old nephew wants to play ruinscape. I didn't think much of it until he told me that as you play you can talk to people. That really concerns me, you hear so many stories these days of people prying on children through these types of sites. Does anyone know anything about Ruinscape. I prefer he play games that don't have the message component to them. He wants games full of action, murder, suspense. Sure is a different age than when I was twelve and playing checkers, and snakes and ladders.

Lol you mean Runescape. I'm an active player there and most people on there are between 9 and 19. Asking for personal details are against the rules there, possibly resulting in a lifelong ban to the user's I.P. address so hardly anyone asks for personal edtails. To me, the site is pretty much safe but just let him know not to give out personal details, just in case.

Do you know of any games like runescape without the messege part of it. What is the drawing card for runescape, why are the kids going after it so much? Are there any other games out there that I could actually encourage him to play like runescape

Umm like the person above said, most online games have a chat system. I say u should let him play since I never saw anyone asking for personal details on there. And no I don't know of any games that are like it... The reason why it is so addictive is its designed in a way to make u want to make your character better than other people's own. Also my bet is most of his friends are probably playing it too.. Its one of the most well known online games and milions of kids from around the world play. But the choice is yours.

Do you mean Runescape? I tried playing it when I was 13 or 14. If he's sensible enough to not give out personal details like his home address, etc. he'll be okay online, not only on that site.

If you've played it, what's the addiction that all the kids have for it? He seems to think it's the only game out there. Are there any games like it that you know of that don't have the message system attached. If you could tell me what it's like maybe I could find one out there for him. THANKS

It's not as complicated as other role-playing games out there. Most of the online games in the market are online communities too. If you don't want him to be part of it you could of course let him try offline games. I'm not sure what he'll like; try searching kids.yahoo.com.

Ive been playing online games for a long time, and its not really new that you can talk to other people there. Coz it helps you work with them. And yes, it wouldnt be safe for your nephew to play if he does not know the Do's and Dont's. Online games helps you make friends around the world. But it definitely is not safe to give out personal info in the web.

I played it for a month and hated it. but it is perfectly safe, as long as he does not give out his address. but i don't think he would anyway:) and socialising online is never a bad thing, just use regularly monitor him.

http://www.runescape.com/kbase/view.ws?guid=controls_chat#quick_chat this is a direct site to the information that you posted. I allow my son to play. This site is backed by many safe features. This quick chat only allows a guideline of words that the user can use until they are at an appropriate age, which is recognized by by the age posted upon creating an account. Look at http://www.runescape.com for more information, there you will be able to access the terms and conditions of this game.
