I have been having extreme problems the past few months with my hands being very dry. It is weird because the main areas where they are dry & cracked is the top of my index fingers & thumbs, especially on my right hand. I have never had this problem before. I have tried so many different lotions & nothing seems to fix the problem. The ones I have tried only temporarily help & I put lotion on my hands several times a day to no avail. Does anybody know of a really good hand lotion that might work? HELP... please!

Bag Balm - A picture of a Bag Balm can
Through some great advise from my neighbor lady, I got help for my extremly dry elbows and legs. Bag Balm. In the green square can. It is available online or in some pharmacies. It acts like petroleom jelly with a kick. It is absolutly wonderful. If you would like to read about it. http://www.bagbalm.com/

Thanks for the tip on the BagBalm sherrir101. I might have to check into it if this keeps up. So far, the best I have tried is Avenno & Curel. I need to buy some more as I do not have either of them at home currently because I ran out. It is hard when you are on a tight budget so you just try to buy the cheap kind in hopes that it works. But then I realize I just wasted my money and now I have tons of half empty bottles of lotion around that don't do any good. I better go as my son just called and is on his way home from school now. I'm going to take my miniature schnauzer out for a walk to meet up with him halfway. Thanks again sherrir101!

I forgot to tell you that this can last forever. I have had the same can for years. I just never thought to use it on my dry skin. LOL

I have had a problem with my skin since I was young. You need to find out what is making your skin so dry. Do you wear washing up gloves, try not to emmerse your fingers in water for too long. I have used just about every product under the sun and they are still sore, itchy, red and flaky! Try not to use anything with perfumes in them and when it gets really bad I have gone to my doctor or pharmacists for help. In the UK I used to use betnovate but it is by prescription only. However, the chemists know of other things that are just as good and don't need a prescription. I used to work in a restaurant and part of our duties was to wash the dishes up (yeah, plus waitress on the tables, sometimes dole out the food, serve the drinks, make the drinks - be everywhere all at the same time) so my Spanish doctor gave me a tablet which I could only use if my hands got really, really bad (i.e they were nearly bleeding). I will have to go and look it up and send you a message tomorrow as I don't have it here with me right now. All I can say is keep putting on as much skin cream as you can, the thicker the better and never with any perfume.

Thanks wickedangel... I don't use gloves when cleaning the house or doing dishes. I have a dishwasher but do rinse off my dishes & wash some pots in the sink. I probably should use gloves. I try to buy the liquid hand soap that has moisturizers in it. I am not sure what I am doing or using differently lately these past few months that might be causing the dryness. I have been having a medical problem that they haven't been able to give me a diagnosis for yet. I don't know... maybe it is related to that. I don't know. I might have MS, but I don't think dry skin is related to that... but, who knows.

Stress is a major factor so if you are going through a stressful period (i.e. you mentioned medical problems) then that may well be what has caused your hands to become so dry. Plus if they have given you any medication that is new, that can also cause dryness. If your hands are itchy then I would say it eczema which is stress related. Try and drink a lot of water that will help your body rid itself of any toxins and give back a little bit of the moisture you may be losing. Good luck and I hope you don't have MS. A friend of mine has just be diagnosed with it...
