I can not apply for unemployment

I was advised by my doctor over a month ago to stop working due to complications with my Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He told me to stop working immediatly but I bargained to work the rest of the week because I did not think it was fair to up and leave my my employers with no notice what so ever. After putting in my note from my doctor they asked em to stay and work an addition two weeks, against my doctors wishes. After discussing it with my doctor I decided to stay the extra two weeks.
I stopped working on February sixteenth and a week alter I went to pick up my last pay cheque, my tax forms and my record of employment. While I was there my my boss told me that he had never had my SIN. I was a little confused, how could I have worked there for so long (9 months) and he had not had my social insurance number, better yet, how did he take money out of my cheque if he did not have my information. Was he paying me under the table and keeping the money he was supposed to be taking out? But that is completley beside the point.
My record of employment was not there so I told one of the other employees and waited for my boss to call me. One week later I phoned and said that I had gone to pick up my record of employment and it was not there. He told me he would make a call and then phone me back, two days later I phoned back inquiring again and he told me it would be ready to pick up by the next day (Friday). Because I had moved and could not easily get in to the city to pick it up I went a week later to pick it up.
It was not there.
The employee working there called my boss for me who told me that my record of employment was being mailed to me and that he would never see it. It was being mailed directly from their accountant, who happens to be my cousin. He told me to call my cousin and ask where it was, so a few days later (making sure that it would not arrive by the weekend) I phoned my cousin and left a message saying that I had not recieved my record of employment and was told to phone her, she has not returned my call.
It has now been four weeks since I stopped working there and I am really starting to run low on cash. I am now spending my rent money on food.
I could call my cousin again, or I could phone my uncle (he is head office for the chain of stores that I worked for) or I could go above and beyond and call the unemployment office.
I really do not know what to do. I do not want to cause a scene but it's been a month and I really need money!

Gosh. Your story sounds like Argentina to me.
Being born in a country where you have to struggle all the time, (for instances, when I asked for a certificate of studies to register myself at university, at school they told me I hadn't finished, I should do a swimming test, or else they couldn't give me one. I found my certificate for the swimming test I had taken the very first year in highschool, they gave me a lousy piece of paper because the ministry didn't give them new forms. I went to the university, they wouldn't accept my piece of paper because it was not a proper form. They finally accepted it, and now I'm an architect. And a fighter.), I would recommend you to call EVERYONE (nicely, you know, "sorry to bother, but i really need this, and I'm entitled to it too, it's been over a month now," bla bla bla), call your cousin, call your uncle, call the unemployment office. See what you get out of it.
In the meantime, you can try to make some extra cash online like the rest of us, but that too takes time.
Good luck, let me know when you get your cheque!!!!

I just called my cousin, she was at wor but her husband told me her father, my uncle, has my record of employment. I called his house and, of course, he was at work. My cousin (the other daughter) gave me his cell number. When I phone it it was turned off. I left a message saying that I was looking for my record of employment and that my boss said my cousin had it and my cousins husband said that my uncle had it. He has not called me back as of yet. I love my uncle but he has a tendency to forget to do things because he is so busy. But I am also a little upset that delivering my record of employment was not high on his priority list, I mean seriously... I need to eat you know?
I'm sorry about you delima with your education it seems like it was very frustrating but at least you pulled through! :)

Well, I'm sure you'll make it too. Just don't despair, and keep calling everybody until they get so tired of inventing excuses that they'll make your problem their #1 priority.
good luck! Let me know when you get it!
=)

My uncle phoned last night and said he would drop it over today. Thank God I can't wait.
