Just saw the trailer for the series and it looks good. Not sure about the actress who plays Precious, as she looks a bit young but I'm really looking forward to it. Here's a link to more info.

The guy who directed this (Anthony Minghella) is from the Isle Of Wight and he died suddenly having an operation 2 days ago. So this will be a big occasion down here I imagine I'll definitely watch it. He also directed the "English Patient" and "Cold Mountain" and my favourite film by him was "Truly Madly Deeply" with Juliet Lewis and Alan Rickman.
I haven't read the books but from an interview with the director I saw about it he was apprehensive as the books are accused of overly sentimental about the country they are set in, but he worked closely with the people in the town where he filmed to make sure it was accurate as possible.
They gave a short interview with the woman playing the main character and she's an American singer so her accent is pretty good considering, I can't wait to see it especially now Anthony has died.

The books are good, not great literature but a nice easy going style of writing. I was concerned about the portrayal of Botswana as it seems over idealised but it is fiction and as far as I'm concerned anything goes in fiction.

It was a total shock about Minghella, he was only in his fifties, such a shame he was a great director. 'Truly, madly deeply' is the only film I've seen of his though but it is a favourite.

I haven't heard of this book or show. Did you watch it? Was it good? I will have to look for it on my torrent site to download. I will let you know what I think after I find it and watch it. Will it be an ongoing series or a one-time movie?

Hmmm...the article said it was 90 minutes, but it was 120. I found it very interesting. The language did make it difficult to understand at times. Overall, I liked it very much.

It was a good adaption of the books I thought and I enjoyed it. I thought it would ba a pilot film and then the series but they only showed the pilot. The series is going ahead but it will be next year it's shown. The language does take a bit of getting used to but I think it adds to the Botswanan setting of the stories. Will you read the books now Trace?

I think I would like to read the books. I can't get the BBC streams because I live in the US. I must rely on the kindness of the Brits to upload the shows I am interested in off BBC and ITV. I love Dr Who, Torchwood, Primeval, Robin Hood and Sarah Jane Adventures.
