With all the buzz that has been going around lately about Apple's MacBook Air, I was wondering if any of you have bought one. I received some information about them in my email that really whetted my appetite for one. It really sounds like a great product with lots of innovative features. I am officially placing the MacBook Air on my Wish List. Would you want one? Have you purchased one?drool

the Air is all hype and style with little substance. The MacBook or MacBook Pro is a better machine for your money.

Lets do a compare and contrast

MacBook 13" Black
2.4GHz Processor
2G RAM
250GIG HD
DVD/CDR burner
two USB ports a Firewire port
MicroDVI port
$1,456.00

MacBook AIR
Same Screen Size
1.6 or 1.8GHz processor slower
2G RAM - same
80GIG HD - Itty bitty
A single USB Port
Micro DVI Port
No CD drive
$1,785.00
Or if you opt for the faster processor but SMALLER (64G) drive
$3,054.00

If you really wanted the big guns available in the $3K version definitely go up to the 17inch MacBook Pro, again WAY more bang for your buck. MacBook Air looks cool, but it's a dud in my book.

Or you could get a PC laptop for about half that price but thats probably a separate discussion.

Yes but if you got a PC Laptop it would suck... and you couldn't run Mac OS 10.5

Thanks for your input on this topic, Myrrdin. I was wondering because I have never used a Mac before. I've heard they are superior to a pc.

The superiority of Mac is debatable, however I have been a computer technician for nearly a decade now, I started out as a PC technician but for the past couple of years I have been a Mac tech. I much prefer the Mac's, they have fewer problems on average, the OS is much more stable, and the hardware is much better designed. On the flip side though there are fewer programs available, particularly in the gaming side. So really it depends on the purpose. In graphics design Mac's can't be beat, in gaming PC's can't be beat. Of course there is also the Virus factor, very few viruses exist for Mac's and not many are being made, where as thousands get released each day for PC's. For a standard home user I'd say Mac's are fine, only heavy business users and gamers should really bother with PC's anymore.

I haven't bought one and have no intention of buying it.

Like what Myrrdin mentioned, the MacBook Air looks good and slim but the hardware specifications is substandard for such a hige price. And definitely a Macbook Pro is a better choice with all the features.

Moreover, I read some news that MacBook Air suffers from overheating and it hangs because of that....Also, it won't run a lot of applications well due to its sub standard specifications, so you might want to take all of that into consideration before you buy...

But if you like the looks and don't mind the low specifications, I don't think anyone can stop you from buying it....

I will take the advice of you more experienced users on this one, chunter, and thanks for the advice. happy
