Manicures and pedicures |
| |
| Do you think it is best to get a manicure and/or pedicure done by a professional or do it yourself at home? I love to go get them down professionally, but I never have the money to go get it done. I normally do it myself at home. What do you do? Can you give me some information about going and getting it done professionally? Such as the risks. May sound stupid, but I'm talking about getting a toenail or fingernail fungus from unclean places. Is that possible? Do you know someone who that has happened to? Can someone also explain to me what a dovo manicure set is, along with a st tropez tan? I really dont have any horror stories about going and getting a manicure done, but my husbands aunt does. I guess the last time she went the lady ended up making her bleed and about ripped her nails off somehow. Shes never gone back to that place since. | | | | | |

| | Just like hair cuts or anything for that matter there is always going to be a horror story. I go see a professional once every 2 - 3 months and have yet to have a horror story on manicures or pedicures. There are risks as the tools they use are used on everyone that comes in. But looking for a salon that takes pride in all this stuff would keep them cleaned after each use. Sometimes if I can't get to the salon I will do it myself. I have learned to do it on my own through watching the professionals do it as well from high school when I took cosmotology. | | | | | | |

| | I really do hope that most of these places keep their tools clean. Just the thought of them using a tool on me that could have had some form of fungus on it from the person before me just makes me feel icky. | | | |

| | What I like about the salon that I go to they do it right in front of you and you see that these utensils are being cleaned right in front of you. After you get the treatment you as well see them throw them in the pot for cleaning. | | | |

| | There's nothing more relaxing than a good manicure or pedicure. I've had them done all kinds of places, from expensive salons here to massage parlors in Bali, and I've never had a bad experience. I've had some average experiences, but no bad ones. I wouldn't go to the "production line" type of places that are popping up around here -- the acrylic nail fumes are so bad you can smell them 5 shops away and all the girls who work there wear gas masks. Doesn't look like a pleasant experience to me! If you're worried about infection, take a look around the reception and front treatment areas. If they keep them clean, they're probably good with their equipment too. Good salons won't treat a person with infected nails, and infections are pretty easy to spot. Don't be afraid to ask questions, or to ask them to do things differently if you're not happy. | | | | | | |

| | Next time I go, I'll have a look around and ask exectly what I want to know. I was always afraid of asking questions and them feeling like I do not trust them. But then again it is my hands and feet so I should know what type of place they run. | | | |

| | I think it is the best to get a manicure done professionally. But I don't have time and money for that right now.I just do my manicure all by myself. I also if you can learn some pedicure tips, that would be great, then you can get your pedicure done professionally by yourself.LOL | | | | | | |

| | You do have to be very very careful when getting a pedicure and/or manicure. Make sure the place is clean. Then again, the best thing you can really do is just bring your own stuff in a box this way you know you're the only one using it. I go every now and then for a manicure. But honestly, I have not gotten one in quite a long time professionally. I have just been doing my own nails. I file them, cut them, put lotion, and do the cuticles. You're best bet is doing them yourself. You will save money and you know you won't be at any risk for infection. | | | | | | |
