Genesis - In the beginning  | |  Genesis are one of my favorite bands but I far prefer the old Genesis songs from the Peter Gabriel era to post PG when Phil Collins took over the lead.
The older albums just got better and better and Genesis were a fantastic upto the mid 1970's.
Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel left and the band became far more commercial. They started releasing singles and I understand they actually started to make a profit.
What a shame they had to make pop songs to survive.
Anybody else share the same opinion?

| | | | | | 1.  bochco123 (426) | 2 years ago |  I can't really agree. I love all the eras of Genesis (even Calling All Stations, which I though was quite underrated). Yes it is different music, but the craftsmanship and musicality was always there. I'd say my favorite Gabriel album would be Selling England By The Pound, and my favorite Collins album would be A Trick Of The Tail for when they were still prog and We Can't Dance when they became more commercial/pop sounding. And thanks for starting a discussion about Genesis. You'd think nobody ever heard of them with the lack of content on the mylot.

Selling England is a classic for me too.
I got heavily into Steve Hackett when he left Genesis and bought certainly all his early albums though I haven't been able to keep up to date with all his recent material. He has become really diverse over the years.
I just love the feel of a great concept album. Something I miss in todays music.
