Should celebrities be allowed to glamourise hard drugs to teens? |
|
I have been disgusted to see the likes of Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse blatantly taking Cocaine or Pete doughtry taking heroine in front of the general public while they are prefroming or at parties and the police seem to do nothing about it! Young people look up to them and might follow in there example because it looks glamorous and there doesn't seem to be any consequences, they can still win Grammy awards like Amy Winehouse and still get amazing modeling contracts and a clothing range in Topshop like Kate Moss. What can we do to stop these awful celebrities from influencing our youth?

jameskempton (112) | 6 months ago | I agree that it would be a waste of Police time to some extent trying to pursue everyone experimenting with drugs. I think that for the likes of for example Pete Doherty, the police spend most of their time arresting him, but if there were real consequences to his actions, like being banned from performing until he kicked his habit, I feel this would be more of a motivation than being dragged in and out of police cells.

3. pitstop (2051) | 6 months ago | I think celebs should NOT be looked up on as role models for anything and society should simply turn their backs to these people who simply sell themselves. Stop giving them publicity and they will shrivel. Thats what we need to do.

jameskempton (112) | 6 months ago | I agree but unfortunately lots of people like to buy the magazines and visit the websites and give the celebs loads of publicity. It's also an issue that someone could buy a celeb mag with one celeb that they agree with on the cover, and then learn that it has loads of people like Kate Moss inside, so their money has still gone towards giving them publicity.

5. wolfie34 (10570) | 6 months ago | Sheesh, is it any wonder why society is so messed up? With role models like those, giving kids the wrong idea, they are so stupid to realize that they will be emulated and in glamourizing drugs it makes it ok and hence the big drug problem, don't they stop to think just what they are doing, they are so shallow and selfish. There are no stiff penalties and these people celebrities or not should be brought down swiftly and taught a lesson that it's not good to promote and glamorize drugs and just what they are doing to teens and society as a whole.

jameskempton (112) | 6 months ago | I agree. I especially dislike Amy Winehouse. Someone told me there is a video of her performing live on You Tube, where she takes a deep sniff from something she concealed with her sleeve and then carried on signing, a few notes behind the instrumentals. When I saw the clip I was amazed that she is allowed to perform in public at all.

6. doubloonie (285) | 3 months ago | Hi James. I completely agree with you and am disgusted at how the media glamorizes the drug/alcohol abuse of celebrities. To enter the world of entertainment is a choice and with this choice comes great responsibility (I know that sounds cliche, but it's too true). These celebrities become role models to the younger and easily influenced people who adore and idolize their heroes. I think it is these celebrities responsibilities to provide a good example to their followers. If these actors/singers/etc can't handle the stress that goes along with their job, then they should take time off and relax rather than get into the hard stuff. It's not as if they'd be hurting for money anyway if they're already famous. Greed plays such a huge part in their choices. I like the idea that the courts are coming down harder on celebrities who break the law, like Paris Hilton, Keifer Sutherland, Nicole Ritchie all for DUI's. However, there is still a long way to go because it's a joke that these people are only serving a small fraction of the time that they were sentenced. But at least it is a start.
