I love antiques! I would have to say the best thing about them is their history. Who owned it before me? How old is it? What's it's history? I love things that have an interesting history behind them. What is the story behind an antique that you own? Please, share! I love history, hence, I love old things and I especially love hearing the stories behind them. My husband has a sword that is from the Revelutionary war and it belonged to a family member of his. I have it hanging on the wall above my desk and I love it! I want to get some more antiques however. Although, I do have some antique books in my house. What's the story behind an antique you have in your home?

I have to agree with you, mMy favorite part of bringing home a new piece is the research and discovery about its history. I recently bought a tea cup in Laos. The people did not speak much English and I spoke even less Laos. One man implied that the piece was from Northern Laos and about 150 years old. If I had beleved that, I could not have brought the cup home due to antiquity laws. However, I recognized that the characters on the mark were Chinese, so even if it was that old, I could still take it out of Laos. When I got home, I spent hours figuring out what the Chinese characters meant. You read them from top to bottom and right to left. The mark says Qinlong Nian Zhui. which means made in the period of Quinlong. This was way they describe the reign of an emperor. Further research shows that most marks on Chinese porcelain are imitations. As far as I can tell, this cup is from 1950 to 1970. Vintage but not an antique. Now I am working on the challenge of figuring out where the cup came from. They might be from Hong Knog. If so, how did it get to Laos? Along the way I have learned a ton about Chinese china manufacturing, reproductions, etc. It is like an adventure.
