Yes I've read it several times. It always seemed that Scarlett's story wouldn't really end when Rhett walked out the door and I love that the author continued the story in Charleston and Ireland to keep the tale moving in a new and interesting way. I think she really understood the characters as well; it was risky taking on someone else's masterpiece and it could very easily not have worked at all.

No, I haven't even read Gone With The Wind. I can't even sit through the movie, I fall asleep everytime. I think it's the only movie that I fall asleep during. I'm guessing that if I can't get through the movie, I probably won't be interested in the book.

When my oldest was around 12 years old he had read Gone With The Wind and he loved it. Then a teacher was talking about the Civil War and my son spoke right up and was telling about different parts that he had read about and then the teacher tried to tell him that he didn't read the book because of his age and then he went into more detail on the book and then took it into school to show her. She was in shock. My son is now 18 and still remembers reading that book, about the only one that he read clear through. I have also read it and then my book fell apart because it was a very, very old book, so I had to replace it. I have been wondering about the sequel book and wanting to read it again. I was so glad to find it in soft cover. Yes, the author, Alexandra Ripley, did a wonderful job picking it right up and the detail is also great and matches so well. And even that they had another chlld was great, if I am remembering correctly, Cat. I am going to start reading the book tonight.

What a lovely story. Good for your son! Actually I was 13 when I first read it. I remember sitting in the conservatory and dozing in the sunshine and then babbling about it to all my school friends who probably weren't interested at all! I loved it ever since. My copy fell apart too because I probably read it at least six or seven times!

My daughter did. She read GWTW too and said it was nearly nothing like the movie and I love the movie. I read it, and it was so different, I got mad at myself for reading it and distinguishing my fond like of GWTW. Then she read Scarlett and said it was not that good (seldom are part 2 of a book or a movie) oif you read it with GWTW in mind. But read it as a first time knowing the characters and is was okay. I saw the tv movie and it wasn't that good, so I raed the book and it wasn't that good either.

The Scarlett movie came out back in the 90's. I am not up on the lingo, but I believe it was a "made for TV" movie - you know the Monday Night Movie times? It stared Ibelieve it was Kathy Ann Down as Scarlett and Timothy Bottoms as Rhett. I saw it first, but my daughter read the book first. I didn't care much for the movie, and didn't bother reading the book as she said it wasn't that good. But then she was hoping for the "amazement" that GWTW had and it just wasn't there.
