What Was the Last Film That Really Scared You?

My partner and I can never agree on what to watch unless it's a horror film. Otherwise we both want to watch different things most of the time. Because we've seen so many now, I suppose we've become desensitised to a lot of things and plot twists and it's rare that we come across a movie that is genuinely frightening. I have to say that the most pleasant surprise, scare factor-wise, in recent times, was a film made by the creators of "Saw". It was called "Dead Silence". In a lot of ways it's a typical horror, but in others it's truly terrifying. It's possibly the horrific premise of the film - dolls, especially ventriloquist dummies are often frightening to most people and there are some twists on the theme that are quite horrific. I definitely recommend it for a good scare! What's the last film to frighten you?

The last film that really scared me was The Ring. I watched it at a friend's house in another town and had to cycle home alone that evening through a forest. I swear that if I had seen a girl with long black hair in a white dress I would have ...

Did you see the American remake or the Japanese original? The original absolutely terrified me!

Hi Phaedra, I saw the American remake. Was the Japanese version really so much better? The Ring Part 1 was not just scary, it left you really thinking, like no other Hollywood Horror film before it. There were so many open questions. I still ask myself, what happened to the doctor who interviewed Samantha in the hospital, before the film cut off. If I find the nerve again, I will try to look at the Jap version, but I will only do it with the use of sofa cushions and hands;-) Have a good weekend. UMart

"The Descent" was pretty scary. Creepy and claustrophobic. I definately recommend it.

Oh that was really good! We got it on DVD. It's made by the people that made Dogsoldiers. That's a brilliant film. Really funny and scary.

I watched "The Descent" recently and was pretty scared. It was a good movie but it also used the pop and scare type stuff that just makes you jump. It was good suspense too so it really made it scary. Good movie too.

I think the last time I was really afraid during a movie was when I watched Deep Water. That is the film where the two divers get lost at sea and eventually are... I do believe in spoiling movies for people. But I thought it was very scary in a primatve sort of way. Something about being lost at sea that is very scary.

I thought that was wonderful too, in a well-thought out and terrifying way. It's interesting that the main actors really managed to carry the film alone. It's rare when that happens in an intensively isolated situation film.

A different reply than most. The only film that really scared me wasn't even a horror film. It was actually The Elephant Man. And it is nothing to do with his disability of his looks, in fact he was beautiful to me. What scared me was the line when the owner of the hospital allowed him to stay in a small room, (John Geilgud) who uttered into space says 'can you imagine what he has lived through" That scared me, but inspired me at the same time. I saw that film a long time ago and it affected me so badly that I don't think I could watch it again. It's so horrifically tragic. I cried my eyes out. Good answer by the way!
