BUS DRIVER  

I am not old but i can see why the bus driver may be doing it. He has a responsiblity for the safety of every child on the bus. Any distractions from the children could cause accidents.

You may not feel like what the kids are doing would distract him. But you arent him. He knows himself and what environment he needs to safely drive those children.

the curse words coming out of the mouths of these kids maybe jarring to him. Plus it is his work environment and he has a right not to have to deal with that type of behavior.

Just like if you were at an office you have a right not to hear your coworkers swearing all the time.

I would rather have a driver who is a little too cautious, then to have a busload of kids killed because the driver got distracted.

These are all the same things that we got in trouble for on the bus decades ago (but we didn't curse like kids do today). Some are safety issues for driver, some for students. I agree as above that over-cautious is better than having a severe accident. But as far as turning around in your seat...maybe he's spending too much attention watching the kids and not enough watching the road?

Work to make the school system install seat belts in school buses. This would cut out the kids moving around and also protect their lives better. I don't like someone yelling in my ear, throwing things or fighting while I'm driving either. You couldn't pay me enough to drive a school bus. That said..it could be that he's getting too old; but would getting a younger driver make the kids behave better?

This seems like a question for the parents and the school board to take up. Becuase as the members before me stated- there are safety concerns etc.. and we would need to hear both sides. Have a good evening.

What you need to realize is that the bus is a moving vehicle. The driver has to pay attention to the traffic and other drivers, not play parent to the children on the bus. If you are in the car with your parents are you allowed to stand up, shout out, or do any of the things you think the bus driver should allow you to do? Of course not! Your parents would not allow that.

My friend is a school bus driver and although she's really pretty relaxed otherwise, when she's on that bus, she's a hard-a**-her own words. Her reasoning is that she is reponsible for the welfare of these kids, and sometimes "minor" infractions can turn into big problems. She once had to stop the bus and break-up a fight (thank god she used to be a correctional facility guard!) Perhaps your child's driver is leaning a little hard on the kids, but maybe he's trying to nip the really bad behaviours in the bud. Would it be possible to have a sit down with him, without the kids and only the parents? Perhaps parents could have a chat with their children afterwards as to what is expected behaviour.
