Why sunglasses is called sunglasses?

Is it because it can protect your eyes from the sun that is why you need a glasses to wear which is the sunglasses? But why there are a lot of people still using "SUNGLASSES" even at night? Is it just for fun? Or so they make more handsome/beautiful?

I never really understand why people wear sunglasses at night time. There is no sun around and if you wear the sunglasses it just makes everything darker and harder to see. Some people may just have them on the top of their head and that may be to keep them safe or for fashion, but people should not wear them over their eyes once the sun is down.

That is true. Everytime me and my friends saw someone doing that, we keep on laughing because they look like blind. It is good if they just put on top of their head, at least it contributes to fashion but not wear it when the sun goes down.
