Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar..... Family |
If you watch the discovery channel or the discovery health channel at all, then you will be completely familiar with the Duggar Family. On August 2, 2007 Michelle Duggar gave birth to her 17th child. Yes you read right, 17 children. The Duggars have gone through an estimated 90,000 diapers, and Michelle has been pregnant for 126 months — or 10.5 years — of her life. And They say they are not finished yet. Can you imagine? Now you might ask Why? Why would a couple at 39 years of age continue to pop out a child a year nearly for the last 2 decades...Jim Bob who is an aspiring republican senator says "We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them." So what are your thoughts about this kind of hysterical mass producing of baseball teams? Is Jim Bob and Michelle really inspired saints, on a mission of God to fulfill the biblical command to go forth and multiply, or are they mad hatters who are in need of birth control and psychiatric care?

1. minnie_98214 (3750) | 4 months ago | Thats just crazy why why why would you want to do that. I mean really those poor kids id hate to live in that house. Plus i mean shes 39 its only gonna get harder and more complications now. And how ever does she plan to get them all thru college. Crazy thats all I can say. I bet she gets assistance from the county.

Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Its actually quite a house they live in.. over 7000 sq feet I think I saw. I agree that her age might start making future pregnancies difficult. how are you Minnie?
| |
minnie_98214 (3750) | 4 months ago | Wow a big house would help but still im sure it doesnt have enough bathrooms. As for me im doing good thanks. Feeling good that I dont have 17 kids lol.
| |
foxyfire33 (5230) | 4 months ago | Actually minnie, no they don't get assistance and are completely debt free! That house is amazing...2 kitchens, a laundramat style laundry room...and lots of bathrooms, although unless every person in a household has their very own a house never has enough bathrooms lol!

2. graceandowen (1130) | 4 months ago | I have seen the documentries about the familly and if im honest i cannot fault them really the only concern i had is that the children do not get enought quality time with the parents as a lot of the care seems to be delegated to the elder siblings. They are totally self sufficient, they earn thier own income have their own house and vans and their children are always smart and clean and they all look relativly happy. so no if they want to do it and they can afford to do so then good for them,

Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | GraceandDown, I really did not mean for my post to sound as judgmental as it does. I Have since posting and reading realize, LMAO, how it comes across. So I guess that kind of shows how I feel and stand on the issue. I have seen early shows on them before they got the exclusive Discovery channel contracts that they were indeed a very big struggling family. I feel that they are exploiting the fact that they choose to continue to have more children and now their notoriety is paying off. See for me I find that some how wrong. hear me out for a second...If in fact you are on a mission of God, do you not do it quietly, giving the glory of what success you are having to God? Now if you were not spouting Gods work, then there is no hypocrisy, and the Zoo you are creating is just what it is and you could carry on with what ever exploits you want. Of course those Children look happy being filmed for the discovery channel. I do not think they have a choice in the matter, they are being paid to be happy and praise the ever growing family. As I have seen you are right each older child is responsible for a younger child, evoking the buddy system at its best. I do not see how any of the children at all get any one on one time with parents or the chance to be an individual. There is no me in team. Making something like this work has to depend on every member working together even to the youngest child. Somehow I just do not see the Waltons in the Duggars.

graceandowen (1130) | 4 months ago | Yes I can see your point of view and appreciate it but at the end of the day it is not up to any of us what they decide to do with their lives, They take care of the children and support themselfs. it would be a different case if they were sponging of the state but they are not so i have no problems with them.

foxyfire33 (5230) | 4 months ago | My 2 cents- I had totally forgotten about how things were before the new house...14-15 kids in their old 4 bedroom ranch style house, then #16 was born while in the 3 bedroom rental while they finished the new house. They might have been fine financially but stuffing 5 girls in one little bedroom and 10 boys in another with another baby on the way doesn't seem too responsible even though it was just temporary.
| |
Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Foxy, the Duggars also have the support of the whole community and an entire church that helped build that house. How many struggling families can you think of that might be okay financially could do so much better if they had the kind of network that the Duggars have. It is not as if theses parents are raising the kids all entirely on their own.
| |
foxyfire33 (5230) | 4 months ago | I'm not sure which way to think about that. You're right that if more families had community support they would be a lot better off...but is it better to essentially rely on others or to be self sufficient? I don't even know that answer because it really depends how you look at it. I'm glad they have a big house now I just wanted to point out that having 15 children in a small 4 bedroom probably wasn't the best decision. They knew for a long time they wanted a large family, maybe the big house project should have been started before they were stuffing 5 kids in each bedroom.

3. Goodie123 (6203) | 4 months ago | Oh My Oh My, I think they need to get a life outside the bedroom. Just imagine all that cooking, washing and ironing for 19 people Angel. Then all those beds to be made. Man just washing all those sheets would be a day long job. Where the heck does she get time to pop another out. I think they need serious birth control or the best psychiatric care they can get.
| |
| |
Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | LMAO Actually Goodie, the children must all do their part in the daily chores and living. Just glad it is not my body. I had three boys and with each delivery it was harder and harder. Glad Jake forced me to have done with it for good.
| |
Goodie123 (6203) | 4 months ago | Each of my pregnacy's got shorter, my labours got shorter and my babies got smaller. If I had 17 I would hate to think what the size of number 17 would have been.
| |
Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | rotflmao what did me in was my middle son...he weighed in at 9lbs 2 oz's. I had him natural birth. That was the most excruciating thing I have ever done. When in labor with Jake then 8 years later, my uterus fell apart like an old wore out dish rag. Both Jake and I almost lost our lives. That was the end of this baby factory. It was shut down and the doors bolted:)))
| |
Goodie123 (6203) | 4 months ago | OMG Angel, that's awful. I wonder why that happened, Man that would have been painful I reckon.
| |
Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Don't really know goodie, my OBGYN said it partly hormonal (i could not produce milk either after Jake chemical imbalances) and partly the stress of my second delivery was just to much and weaken my uterus. It was painful, but not for long, they were lightening fast at getting me into surgery.
| |
Goodie123 (6203) | 4 months ago | And so many people complain when they have a normal easy delivery. You were so lucky you had a good doctor Angel.

4. sassysammy81 (333) | 4 months ago | Yeah,I have seen that show and simular ones with the concept of lots of children,I think its nuts.17 kids is way too many,I think she should be fixed and so should he.I love my children, but I only have two,and I think there should really be a limit on the amount of children should beable to have.I couldn't even imagine living like that, always someone around, always having to share whatever you do have, and never no privcy,I'm sorry but people need there space and I find 17 children crazy.

I just want to add here that what we see of well rounded, well behaved, clean children is what they are paid to present to the public. They have an exclusive contract with Discovery for their story. I do not remember how much they make but it is quite impressive.

6. copperkitten (2044) | 4 months ago | I have watched alot of there shows over the years starting with the first. I am amazed at them. I guess if they can provide for all the children then so be it. Its there lives and if they want say 25 kids they can. As long as there all taken care of and have a good life which they do. There not like most who have kids and cant support them. They arent on welfare. They both provide for the family. Eventually Michelle will not be able to have anymore and they will finally be done. Untill then I hope they accept as many kids as they can. ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always!~ Copper

novataylor (1570) | 4 months ago | Me too, weemam! Whew! I can't even begin to imagine what that woman must go through. I chose not to have children, and sometimes I have regretted that choice, only sometimes though, and I truly love children and am spiritually lifted by them, BUT I just don't get what they're doing here, with all of these kids. How can she subject her body to that? Can you imagine how old she must be inside? You know, I've always thought that women the same age as myself, who've had children, have always looked older than I do. Having kids just seems to suck some of the youth right out of you, so just imagine what she sees in the mirror. Maybe that sounds shallow, and it's not meant to, but geez, she must be an empty shell by now.

Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Wee:))) I had my share of kids:)) I did as best I could with the three I had, I would have gone insane with little more then one little one at a time. My boys were 5 years apart then 8 years between the middle and the last. One baby at a time I say!

Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Nova, by all accounts I hear Michelle is very healthy, but your right she does look older then her 39 years. When you have children it causes a maturity that I think other wise you do not gain. (there are exceptions of course0. I do not think just because you are female you are meant to be a mother and it is perfectly acceptable that a women would choose to not have children. Some times I have envied those of my friends that did not. Not only have they retained more of their youth than I have, the freedoms they could enjoy is something parents sacrifice altogether. Don't get me wrong here I said sometimes I envied. There are joys unspeakable about being a mother. Joys, blessings heartaches, gut wrenching anger. There are emotions only mothers can experience. I would not have given any of that up for every freedom and lives my childless friends lived and for all the money in the world.

8. whittby (1859) | 4 months ago | I think they're crazy, I truly do. If you love children that much, adopt, please adopt. What kind of shape is her body or uterus in for Pete's sake. I don't think our bodies are made to get pregnant that much. I knew a family back east that had nine kids and they felt this way too - she was in her 30's and her doctor told her she had the uterus of a much older lady - all worn out.

Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | That was what I was telling Goodie Whittby, my uterus was wore out and old after the second one. I guess some women are built to have babies. My body was not one of them.

9. kamran12 (1809) | 4 months ago | Hello Angelwhispers!:-) One of my father's friends are 19 brothers and sisters from same parents, my immediate neighbor, in my homeland (We used to call her Aunt) were 11. Leaving aside the judgment for a moment, I am just impressed by not only the fertility of the young lady but also that she is healthy, if indeed she is, and have stamina and motivation to go forward with more. That must have taken a lot strength out of her! Amazing! I do, however, think that they should consider possible problems with future pregnancies, as she is already touching 40, before going forward for another one. As far as if they are really happy or not, I seriously don't know. The family of my father's friend is quite a happy family. I would say that they are happier than most folks that I know of, including those who have none but one kid or those who have none. There is definitely a problem of individual care and time, and I don't think they can ever manage such a thing. But, come to think of it, is it impossible that they are less happy being in large numbers having less individual time? having an example that I shared, I don't think so! But, I also think that it would be an exception rather than a rule! I would just wish them health, happiness and a blissful healthy life!

Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Good Evening dear One...... You are always my voice of reason. It is so hard to maintain an attitude of social judgment once you walk into a discussion my friend. Of course you are impressed as we all should be.... There are not many women that could do what she has done or stand up under the scrutiny that we are giving this family. "I would just wish them health, happiness and a blissful healthy life!" There is just not much to say after this statement. Kamran once again thank you for the light you bring into a dark room.
| |
kamran12 (1809) | 4 months ago | Thank you for your kind words, Angelwhispers! "Kamran once again thank you for the light you bring into a dark room." What dark room you are talking about here precisely? That lady's dark room is already lit by 17 light bulbs!:-)
| |
Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | rotflmao LMAO LMAO Kamran.... LMAO I was referring to the dark room I call my brain.
| |
kamran12 (1809) | 4 months ago | Angelwhispers, I have found your brain to be one of the brightest here, no kidding! Of course we all can be dark in areas where we haven't researched much or not in a proper way, as it should have been researched. One should stay away from those areas and try to light up the brain before one speaks. That would be an interesting day if we could claim that we don't have darker sides needed to be lit by knowledge and wisdom!:-)

10. youdontsay (1971) | 4 months ago | Just as I don't think I have the right to tell someone they can't have an abortion, I personally don't think I have a right to tell someone they should or shouldn't have more children if those children are going to be well cared for, if they are supported financially as well as physically. I can't imagine raising that many children. I'd go mad. But if they can afford it and are good parents with family support, why not. I do wonder about how much attention each child can get if there are so many. But then the older children can attend to the younger, I suppose. But what about Michelle's body? It takes a lot of a woman to be pregnant and give birth, let alone the every day stresses of parenting. I've read that it takes at least two years for a woman's body to recover fully from pregnancy and childbirth. In some respects their having so many children can be seen as incredibly selfish. The people in our culture are such huge consumers that we destroy the environment at an incredible rate. So increase population in Western culture does the earth no favors. With so many people who want children but can't have them, maybe they should at least consider be surrogate parents.
| |
| |
Angelwhispers (4418) | 4 months ago | Youdon'tsay, no we do not have the right nor the liberty to inject our will onto others. This discussion is purely only for us to learn about each other here in mylot. Like you I have seen this as a selfish issue also. The 90,000 disposable diapers for one startles a person sober. I also think about all of the children that need adoption.
