Wow a big house would help but still im sure it doesnt have enough bathrooms. As for me im doing good thanks. Feeling good that I dont have 17 kids lol.

Actually minnie, no they don't get assistance and are completely debt free!
That house is amazing...2 kitchens, a laundramat style laundry room...and lots of bathrooms, although unless every person in a household has their very own a house never has enough bathrooms lol!

GraceandDown, I really did not mean for my post to sound as judgmental as it does. I Have since posting and reading realize, LMAO, how it comes across. So I guess that kind of shows how I feel and stand on the issue.

I have seen early shows on them before they got the exclusive Discovery channel contracts that they were indeed a very big struggling family. I feel that they are exploiting the fact that they choose to continue to have more children and now their notoriety is paying off. See for me I find that some how wrong.

hear me out for a second...If in fact you are on a mission of God, do you not do it quietly, giving the glory of what success you are having to God? Now if you were not spouting Gods work, then there is no hypocrisy, and the Zoo you are creating is just what it is and you could carry on with what ever exploits you want.

Of course those Children look happy being filmed for the discovery channel. I do not think they have a choice in the matter, they are being paid to be happy and praise the ever growing family.

As I have seen you are right each older child is responsible for a younger child, evoking the buddy system at its best. I do not see how any of the children at all get any one on one time with parents or the chance to be an individual. There is no me in team. Making something like this work has to depend on every member working together even to the youngest child.

Somehow I just do not see the Waltons in the Duggars.

Yes I can see your point of view and appreciate it but at the end of the day it is not up to any of us what they decide to do with their lives, They take care of the children and support themselfs. it would be a different case if they were sponging of the state but they are not so i have no problems with them.

My 2 cents- I had totally forgotten about how things were before the new house...14-15 kids in their old 4 bedroom ranch style house, then #16 was born while in the 3 bedroom rental while they finished the new house. They might have been fine financially but stuffing 5 girls in one little bedroom and 10 boys in another with another baby on the way doesn't seem too responsible even though it was just temporary.

Foxy, the Duggars also have the support of the whole community and an entire church that helped build that house. How many struggling families can you think of that might be okay financially could do so much better if they had the kind of network that the Duggars have. It is not as if theses parents are raising the kids all entirely on their own.

I'm not sure which way to think about that. You're right that if more families had community support they would be a lot better off...but is it better to essentially rely on others or to be self sufficient? I don't even know that answer because it really depends how you look at it. I'm glad they have a big house now I just wanted to point out that having 15 children in a small 4 bedroom probably wasn't the best decision. They knew for a long time they wanted a large family, maybe the big house project should have been started before they were stuffing 5 kids in each bedroom.

LMAO Actually Goodie, the children must all do their part in the daily chores and living. Just glad it is not my body. I had three boys and with each delivery it was harder and harder. Glad Jake forced me to have done with it for good.

Each of my pregnacy's got shorter, my labours got shorter and my babies got smaller.
If I had 17 I would hate to think what the size of number 17 would have been.

rotflmao what did me in was my middle son...he weighed in at 9lbs 2 oz's. I had him natural birth. That was the most excruciating thing I have ever done. When in labor with Jake then 8 years later, my uterus fell apart like an old wore out dish rag. Both Jake and I almost lost our lives. That was the end of this baby factory. It was shut down and the doors bolted:)))

Don't really know goodie, my OBGYN said it partly hormonal (i could not produce milk either after Jake chemical imbalances) and partly the stress of my second delivery was just to much and weaken my uterus. It was painful, but not for long, they were lightening fast at getting me into surgery.

And so many people complain when they have a normal easy delivery.
You were so lucky you had a good doctor Angel.

I think I might have heard yes, about her miscarriages. I just want to add here that what we see of well rounded, well behaved, clean children is what they are paid to present to the public. They have an exclusive contract with Discovery for their story. I do not remember how much they make but it is quite impressive.

And you are absolutely right that we only see what they want us to see...and I have seen a few meltdowns with the little ones. Can you just imagine what breaks out when #13 pushes #14 down the indoor slide causing him to smash into #15 who knocks over #16 while Michelle is busy with #17 and #1-#12 are busy doing laundry, cooking meals and homeschooling! Yikes!

That is one thing about human nature CopperKitten, we have such curiosity albeit sometimes bordering on nosy about other peoples lives. Especially if those lives are so much different than ours. It was so very nice to share your views Thank you.

Me too, weemam! Whew! I can't even begin to imagine what that woman must go through. I chose not to have children, and sometimes I have regretted that choice, only sometimes though, and I truly love children and am spiritually lifted by them, BUT I just don't get what they're doing here, with all of these kids. How can she subject her body to that? Can you imagine how old she must be inside? You know, I've always thought that women the same age as myself, who've had children, have always looked older than I do. Having kids just seems to suck some of the youth right out of you, so just imagine what she sees in the mirror. Maybe that sounds shallow, and it's not meant to, but geez, she must be an empty shell by now.

Wee:))) I had my share of kids:)) I did as best I could with the three I had, I would have gone insane with little more then one little one at a time. My boys were 5 years apart then 8 years between the middle and the last. One baby at a time I say!

Nova, by all accounts I hear Michelle is very healthy, but your right she does look older then her 39 years. When you have children it causes a maturity that I think other wise you do not gain. (there are exceptions of course0. I do not think just because you are female you are meant to be a mother and it is perfectly acceptable that a women would choose to not have children. Some times I have envied those of my friends that did not. Not only have they retained more of their youth than I have, the freedoms they could enjoy is something parents sacrifice altogether.

Don't get me wrong here I said sometimes I envied. There are joys unspeakable about being a mother. Joys, blessings heartaches, gut wrenching anger. There are emotions only mothers can experience. I would not have given any of that up for every freedom and lives my childless friends lived and for all the money in the world.

That was what I was telling Goodie Whittby, my uterus was wore out and old after the second one. I guess some women are built to have babies. My body was not one of them.

You are always my voice of reason. It is so hard to maintain an attitude of social judgment once you walk into a discussion my friend. Of course you are impressed as we all should be.... There are not many women that could do what she has done or stand up under the scrutiny that we are giving this family.

Of course we all can be dark in areas where we haven't researched much or not in a proper way, as it should have been researched. One should stay away from those areas and try to light up the brain before one speaks. That would be an interesting day if we could claim that we don't have darker sides needed to be lit by knowledge and wisdom!:-)

Like you I have seen this as a selfish issue also. The 90,000 disposable diapers for one startles a person sober. I also think about all of the children that need adoption.
