Some support for giving up alcohol please!! |
| |
| I realise at the weekend that since i started drinking alcohol 28 years ago, i have never went more than a week without getting drunk! this scared me, but not as much as my Liver who sent me a begging letter.... "Dear axle can you please give me and my cousin the Kidneys a break from alcohol. 30 days would be lovely. yours sincerely Lionel Liver & Kenny Kidney." I am now on day 4 and feeling the pressure already! lol! i do not expect to last the 30 days (especially as my wife is coming up to her time of the month!) but i can look back to giving up smoking. i did not put pressure on myself and now i am 1 year this month without a cigerette. does anyone have any tips to stay of the drink? thanks in advance. | | Oh deer! this is a toughy!! | | | | |

| | Well,I was an alkie, and I suppose I always will be,but I havent touched any booze in 6 years. I found the best thing to take the edge off was simply to smoke more pot. My liver and kidneys are great now,my pish is clear,a lot clearer than the tap water. I used to have so much sugar in my water with drinking so much booze, that when I ran out of milk I would simply piss in my cornflakes. I have much more pennies to spend now,and I noticed after the first week booze free,I had saved 100 quids.More to spend on pot. Its great to being sober all the time,I havent sh1t myself in years now either. Nor have I urinated in the corner of a room, shouted abuse at passing policemen,or picked fights with unsuspecting night club revellers. | | | | | | |

| | I'm proud of you RTT for having 6 yrs no drinking!! Congrats. I sure wish they would legalize pot as there is no harm in smoking pot. In fact my grandpa, Bless his Heart survived an extra 12 years with cancer due entirely to smoking pot. He was able to keep food down after smoking a fattie, so I'm all for pot legalization...Lori | | | |

| | Congrats on the smokes!! Thats a huge feat to have undertaken!! Now about the drink, I'm going thru this with my brother now & encouraging him 1 day at a time, sometimes it's even 1 hour at a time, so far so good 3 days no drinking, & he's an every day drunk too. He's now at the point where he's getting sick, so I'm in this for the long haul. I hope & pray you can also stay away from the drink....Lori | | | | | | |

| | Hello, axle! Some twenty years back you had started consuming alcohol and soon after the alcohol started consuming you.so long you drink with limited quantity it may be beneficial to the health but excess is bad.so your liver and kidney have given you the ultimatum to quit or alternatively you suffer.you also rightly opted to quit but don't long for even a peg.if continued this process for a month you will achieve success as you did in case of cigarette.thank you.all the best. | | | | | | |

| | First, put all the guns away, bring them to a friends home if you don't trust yourself. That way, when the time of month appears, you won't be tempted. Pour yourself a drink and think about ways to stop. Wait, lets try that again. Take up driving, go on short drives every time you want to drink. Don't drive to the pub. Drive around until you don't feel the need anylonger. If you feel the need and its stronger than you expect, purchase some cheap American beer. It tastes like crap and the alcohol content is far below that of what a good beer should contain. If you like wine, buy grape juice instead, but if you drink too much of that be prepared for the unwanted consequences in the rest room. Do not let the juice ferment before you drink it, you'll be sorry, hammered and possibly hospitalized, but sorry. I think that you'll just need to lean on yourself and those that are close to you. If you ask them for support, you may be surprised when they are willing to happily give it to you. I wish you luck. I practiced many years to be a drunk, but I just wasn't very good at it. I like to drink, but I've found that I don't love to drink. I wish you well in your quest and if I can help you in any way, I'd be more than happy to. | | | | | | |

| | Plus, if you have been clean for a year on the cancer candies, you should use that as incentive to remind yourself that you are capable of being successful in a task that involves willpower. I trust you will do just fine. | | | |

| | I see that you still have your sense of humor! There are many ways to stay sober. The best way is through a support group. Have you heard of alcoholics anonymous? There is even an online forum so you can get support without leaving your home! I think nutrition plays a big role, as you may desire something sweet to make up for the lack of alcohol in your system. Keep a diary, or blog, so you can keep track of your feelings and thoughts. This will help you to notice any patterns that you have developed! Make sure that you do not have any resentments, and if you do, try to forgive others and work it out so you do not fall because of bad feelings! A therapist can do wonders with this and other mental health issues that you may notice! It does come back to that PAC, parent adult child, that is a part of us everyday! So the child in you demands a drink, but the parent in you must tell that child to hush! You do not want or need a drink! The adult in you must take all three of yourself out for a walk, exercise and eat good healthy food that will minimize your cravings! | | | | | | |

| | It's great that you're giving up drinking! Drinking can be so detrimental to the body. I don't think people shouldn't ever drink, but if you get to the point that you're past "in moderation" then it's best you just stop all together! | | | | | | |

| | Let me know if you find any...I don't drink often but I do find that I have a glass of wine or a beer about twice a week without even thinking about it. Almost like having a soda, it's a little scary but I limit it to 1 glass and don't get piss drunk that often. | | | | | | |
