How do you teach kids about money?

A recent study shows that kids have more buying power these day. On more occasions, they are ask to independently choose what they want to buy and when. With these in mind, businesses across the world are trying to look for ways on how to tap this market. Childre today are exposed to a lot of commercialism. Everywhere they go, they could see advertisements for things that are "in". And becuase of this, they learn to want everything that the market has to offer. With this in mind, how do we teach kids about money? Do we give them outright? Do we show them how to use it? Do we tell them to save for the things they want or do we just buy it for them? Do we give them allowance? If yes, how much should a kid (let's say school-age kids) get?

it wont matter i presume if a parent will give a child money so he will be taught on how to manage it properly. i think though that a kid must be taught of its value, like how difficult it is to be earned. if they know this, they will grow up to know how to spend wisely and not overspend money. I remember i know someone who will be given an allowance if they will help at their dad's shop. and they are very well aware of it and understands why their dad would want them to help their business... for them to know how hard it is to earn every single penny... and so they value the money they have.

yeah, i kind of agree to this one too....children at present don't seem to have a grasp of how hard it is to earn money...they are used to having their parents give it to them....so teaching them the value of each cent would be a good one...
