Here is an excerpt:
WASHINGTON - The California congressman who called the Sept. 11 attacks “simply” a plane crash ran for cover Wednesday under a barrage of ridicule from fellow Republicans, first responders and victims’ families.
San Diego GOP Rep. Darrell Issa was under siege for suggesting the federal government had already done enough to help New York cope with “a fire” that “simply was an aircraft” hitting the World Trade Center.
Here are some reactions from members of his own party:
“New York was attacked by Al Qaeda. It doesn’t have to be attacked by Congress,” added Long Island Rep. Pete King, a Republican.
“I’m really surprised by Darrell Issa,” King added. “It showed such a cavalier dismissal of what happened to New York. It’s wrong and inexcusable.”
“It seems that with the passage of time, something happened along the way where the scope of the problem and the real extent of the problem has not drifted out to California,” fumed Staten Island GOP Rep. Vito Fossella.
Any thoughts here? Should this man still be in Congress with his obvious disregard for his fellow Americans? If he were my Congressman I'd be calling for his resignation or recall!

Unfortunately, this disease of forgetfulness has invaded many more people besides him... people who want us out of the Middle East, people who ridicule the President all seem to have forgotten this. Its great that they weren't personally hurt by the attacks on 9/11, but they dismiss those who were, and the fact that we were attacked at all! Its invaded the media as well, so the general public are being led to gradually change their attitudes. We need to stay mad, and support the peace that is finally building in the world.

This discussion has nothing whatever to do with people who want us out of the Middle East or people who ridicule the President. This is about helping the victims of 9/11, the workers and first responders who survived the initial attack but are not suffering from horrible after effects for one thing. Your final sentence, "We need to stay mad, and support the peace that is finally building in the world," puzzles me totally, I don't know what it has to do with this topic at all and I sure don't know what "peace" is building in the world. Did I miss that report somehow?

I know this is VERY late but I just got back to this discussion. I didn't mean to offend you and I don't like to fight about anything either. I guess what I meant to say is we can and should still be mad about being attacked on 9/11, I'll never disagree with that, but even those of us who were not in favor of going into Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11 are still angry about that attack. We can also disagree with things Bush has done all the while being angry about 9/11. I'm afraid there will never be true peace in the Middle East no matter what we do. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but that's my belief.
Anyway, I really apologize for making you angry, if I did so, because that was not my intent at all.

Annie,
I guess there are some real dummies no matter what side of the political arena they're on! So if I get this guy right then the kamikaze pilots crashing into our Pacific fleet were just merely "plane crashes"?

I am suprised he was not physically hurt. That is very insulting to our country. I do not think that he deserves to be in congress.

Unfortunately there are always certain ignorants out there. Do not judge all Republicans based on one man though. I do not agree with the Republican ideology but I know not to judge them based on what this guy said.

I'm with you; I'd never judge all Republicans but one ignoramus. I disagree with most of their ideology as well but that doesn't for one minute make them bad people. That's why I wanted to show what some of his fellow Republicans said about him to illustrate that this isn't a partisan issue.

Yep...sure was simply a plane crash....
Planes fly into buildings every day- no big deal! Right??
I can't even respond to this- it's appalling!
