Carnival Freak Show email this discussion to a friend?

Okay, I went to the rodeo last Sunday and they had a carnival at the same fairgrounds for those who weren't interested in the rodeo (like me lol). I saw that they had a freak show so I decided to go and see what that was like. I thought they'd have real people in there like the stereotypical bearded lady and stuff like that, you know?

Well they didn't and it was kind of boring. They didn't have much in there so there wasn't much to see. The most unusual thing they did have was a living cow with two legs growing out of its back! I was like whoa!

They also had Shetlen (spelling?) ponies in there for some reason. I mean, they are not freaks lol. I don't know what that other cow was doing in there though because it didn't look unusual to me, unless it was suppose to be a really fat cow.

The things they had in the jars on the other hand were kind of strange. I mean, the shrunken head. They also had a fetus of a two-headed cat, a two-headed snake, a two-headed baby (still don't know if that one was real or just made of rubber or something), and they had a cobra (although I don't know why THAT was in a freak show). They also had something called a demon baby in a small handheld casket. It looked like a burned vampire baby or something, fangs and all. Also there was something with a humanoid head and torso, but a tail. It looked like something you'd see on a scary movie or something, like that movie Ghoulies. That's what it looked like, one of those little monsters.

Have any of you visited a freakshow to see what was in there? Were you disappointed in it? What kind of things did they have?

I've never been to a freakshow, but what you went to sure don't sound much like a freakshow. If they didn't have anything I'd consider abnormal then it's not freaky at all. I would've been disappointed with it too. The things in the jar you mentioned were kind of freaky though. Got to give them credit for that at least.

Yeah, the things in jars were the most abnormal thing there. That and the cow with the legs growing out of its back. At first I thought those legs belonged to a calf or something that was growing on it, you know like a cajoined twin or something.

That may have been it's undeveloped twin or something. Who knows..lol

Hey,
It sounds like you saw a freak animal show. There are a couple of those around. Most likely you saw John Strong's, which tours the midwest and mid-south, and advertises as if it has more than just animals - sometimes it does but not at every location.
There are still real sideshows around with the sort of things you had hoped to see. Look for World of Wonders if it comes to your area, or the Coney Island sideshow if you are in New York City. Or if a single human freak is good enough, check out the World's Smallest Woman show - it appears at fairs all up and down the east coast. And, try to appreciate what you see - the few operators of these shows are keeping a true form of Americana alive. Enjoy!
