Wars Over Water |
|
I really believe this is coming, because the amount of clean, drinkable water on the planet seems to be diminishing. Historically, most villages and cities have sprung up near water sources. Water is the one thing that we can't survive without for more than 72 hours. We can't live without it, we can't grow crops without it, we can't operate businesses without it. And it's dwindling. So what do you think?

Who got the water?
Europe is running out... so is Africa and Australia.
Four reasons... - The glaciers which provided water have melted by two third... and will soon desappear all together.
- Instead of raining over the land... it rains over the oceans.
- The doubling of our population over the past 50 years has made us use twice as much water as in the past.
- Our obsession with cleanliness also make us use twice as much water as in the past.
But we won't have a war over water. We have the technology to build desalination plants... so as to use water from the ocean. But water will become very costly. And desalination plants work well if you live on the coast... but for those who live inland... it is another story.
Don't worry about dying of thirst. You will die of starvation first. No water for the farmers means no food.
A little know fact... is that it did happen before... back in 1300. After the population had grown too fast... half of it died from malnutrition and deseases.

2. overwings (3609) | 9 months ago | As long as there are oceans there will be water. It will be more expensive as it will have to be desalinated but there won't be water wars. Intelligent irrigation can greatly reduce water consumption. You can see great examples of how to do so in Israel where they make sure that every drop is well used.

TheCatLady (1604) | 9 months ago | We use every drop in Israel. We are now building 2 more desalinization plant to help us meet our ever increasing need for water. We are having a drought so people are cutting back on watering the garden. I the summer I even use grey water for gardening. The water from my washing machine can keep my garden green.

3. TheCatLady (1604) | 9 months ago | Many countries are building desalinization plants. My country has 2 and we are building 2 more. Saudi Arabia has many plant to provide all the water they need. Almost all water can be purified and reused. Sewage water is treated and used for growing crops. On the space shuttle the astronauts urine was treated and re drank. We just have to be inventive to find ways to supply us with the water we need.
