According to the mayor of Los Angeles, we need immigrants to keep our economy strong. I am not very well informed on these kinds of issues. Can someone please explain this to me in English. I mean I do know that they say that most immigrants will do the jobs that Americans will not do, for lower wages. And to be honest, I applaud them for that. I worked two hours in a factory downtown when I was about 19 years old. It was about 100 degress in the place. We were making shoulder pads. The guys worked with their shirts off and were bragging about the burns they had sustained there. I could not communicate well with them, if I remember correctly, they were all Hispanic. Tell me what you think of what the mayor said. http://www.knx1070.com/Villaraigosa-to-Feds:-Ease-Up!/1981877

I think what he is saying, is that we need them to work the jobs that the average joe won't work. I admit they work hard and get no slack for it. they just get abused more by most of society.

We need immigrants to bolster the economy mostly because the biggest populations in canada and the U.S. the baby boomers are retiring and or dying out. We need people to replace them in the field as well as to pay for their retirements. We also need them for a lot of the lower end jobs no one wants to do, as well as a lot of the High Tech jobs most of us are not capable of doing. Also don't forget that both canada and the U.S. were founded on the backs of immigrants so this is nothing new.

We need them I agree. However, we also need them to pay INCOME TAXES as many jobs often pay under the table. We need them to keep costs down is the main thing. And Rozie's work experience is why alot of those jobs have moved overseas because Americans do not wish to work in such conditions. I also imagine the places that still work under conditions are living in the past when labor groups protested the hours, conditions, and wages in the late 1800's to early 1900's

That's just it many do not. And frankly if they'd pay their taxes and become citizens I bet there'd be less strain on the government as a whole especially helping us pay down the bail outs and national debt with their tax money. Then again my MIL says that Puerto Rico get to vote & other American citizen benefits with out paying their taxes or being true citizens. It just doesn't seem fair.

It is sad to hear that.... The American people are just relying on immigrants to boost their economy? I do think, they are having more gain from the illegal workers that they have now.. because they are paid the lowest. Legal immigrants specially those who are degree holders are paying the same taxes from that of a US citizen or a resident. Not all immigrants are receiving low pay? I could say most illegal workers are receiving the low pay and yet some of them are paying taxes even if they are illegal. I don't understand that.

It is hard to read between lines. We need the Mexicans to do the jobs not all of Americans willing to do. At the same time, they work here, they need to spend the money too. Such as house rental; groceries; utility bills; and miscellaneous. That will help the economy a little bit at least. You make money, and you gonna spend money too, don't you?
