We raise Boer goats. Boer goats are the best type of goat to raise if you area interested in good tasting meat. Our goats are all treated very humanely. We take them for walks (weather allowing), and provide the best organic foods for them through natural browsing. One of our mama goats gave birth about 2 months ago to a little girl that couldn't stand. It was sad to see her struggle so much. We took the baby to the vet to see what the vet could do. The end result was we had to put her down as there was nothing that could be done. It was a sad day for us. The rest of our herd is doing fine, all are very healthy. It would be interesting to hear from individuals that know something about goat care that could help us understand why this particular baby was born so weak. Have a great weekend!

As with any animals there are birth defects. We have had Nubian's and now Boars and we have had a problem once in awhile. our animals are all free range on organic fields we do supplement them with a special local organic ration in cold months but in most cases we have not had a birth problem. There probably is nothing you could have done to correct the problem. We do keep a small amount of vitamins on hand and feed them brewers yeast and garlic weekly to prevent lice or ticks and flies from bothering them.
