I am not an American but I am curious about the political issues in the US. Being one of the most powerful and richest countries in the world, of course its political and economic affairs also have its influence globally..
I wonder who most of the Americans will vote to be their next LEADER? and Why?

I am definitely voting for the republican, which looks like it is going to be John McCain. I have never liked Hillary, and this campaign has not influenced my esteem for her in a positive way to say the least. As for Obama, I think he seems like a nice person, however, I do not agree with his proposal for how this country should be run. I tend to be one of your "grassroots" Americans and believe the principles laid down by our founding fathers are still the way to go and whichever candidate seems to want to preserve that the most (in my opinion, that is) is who I am going with. These days, it seems the republican party holds most of the grassroots American values.
As for the war, my perspective is that if we do not fight this battle to the end, we could face some very unfortunate consequences. None of the wars the US has been involved in came about because we were "too strong." And if we are too passive it will just send a message to the terrorists that we don't care which would have the huge potential to bring about more terrorist attacks. No, nobody likes war, but sometimes it is necessary. Our independence was even won by winning a war. Pulling out would be a sign of defeat, which is not what this nation is about and never was. I believe the mindset that nothing is worth fighting for is much worse than war itself. If war were obsolete, we would not have rival nations physically colliding still today, and I don't know anyone who would sit around waiting to be hit if there was a wanting criminal on the loose in their own neighborhood. Same principle when your country is dealing with terrorists. Furthermore, it is the tyrannical governments who make wars, free republics do not. The men and women who risk their lives to fight for us do so WILLINGLY (involvement in our military is voluntary, after all). If you actually listen to what members of our military have to say, they are very adamant about finishing what they started. That said, I fully support a just war, and I believe this is a just war. This is NOT to say that situations such as this are not pursued with a very heavy heart because they are. (Also, I do NOT support unnecessary wars, like sending our troops off into some remote area to make peace between countries that never threatened us. Since this all started wen we were, I believe the war on terror is a necessary evil).
McCain will be my president... (Actually Ronald Reagan is my president, but from today's candidates McCain seems like he has most of the right things going). All IMO, of course.

I can sense your sincere love and devotion to protect the heritage and ideology of the grassroots American values..
I do commend the bravery of the American troops who voluntarily serve to protect (the innocent people) and provide peace and stabilization in the regions of Iraq..
I do hope that the war will end peacefully so the brave soldiers and volunteers could go back home safely to their families...
I do appreciate your response...

Personally, I do not care for ANY of the candidates. I am a woman, but I don't feel that Hilary is capable of running the country. I don't have anything against blacks, but don't feel Obama is the one either. Im just so sure Obama will be the one this country votes for though. Maybe he will prove me wrong and turn out to be the greatest leader this country has ever known.......who knows....only time will tell.

I think McCain would be my choise if I was an american, he is the only one with something to be proud of and I always prefered the ideologies of the republicans. As someone from Israel I would prefer he would be chosen too, because he is the only one who got it right about the situation here.

I thankfully do not have to chose between Obama or McCain, as I live in Europe. I am very sorry that my American relations and friends do not have a better choice. If I were a American I would get a petition organised so that Jesse Ventura would candidate to become US President. He loves and has served his country and his opinion is not for sale.
All the best
UMart
