My Favorite Movie of All Time  | |  The Sound of Music is my favorite movie of all time. I got to go see it when it first came out in my area. I was about 9 or 10 years old. Not too long after that the real Maria VonTrapp was touring the US and came to our area. My mom took me to see her speak. Unfortunately we got a late start and my mom was driving too fast to try to get me there on time and got stopped for speeding, got a ticket, and I was later than I would have been if she had just driven the legal speed. I missed most of Maria's talk, but got to see the end of it. I remember being a bit disappointed because she didn't look anything at all like Julie Andrews. But, hey, I was just a kid. That was over 40 years ago.

 capirani (149) | 4 months ago | Yes it is definitely a true story with some additions. The family did really leave the country to get away from the war and they were a musical family. They have an Inn, or they did, somewhere in Vermont, I think...maybe one of the other northern New England states. I wouuld have loved to have met Maria Von Trapp or at least heard her speak.I have read the book of their story too. It was really good too.
It is a good story and makes an excellent movie!!
