I HAVE RECENTLY BEGUN R-CHOP CHEMOtherapy FOR NHL.MY FAMILY HAS 4 YORKSHIRE TERRIERS WITH MORE ON WAY.ALSO HAVE 3 DACHSHUNDS KEPT OUTDOORS.SOME MEMBERS OF FAMILY HAVE ADVISED ME THAT TO REMOVE THESE VALUABLE MEMBERS OF THIS FAMILY WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO A HEALTHIER RECOVERY TIME DURING CHEMO.REMOVING THESE PETS WOULD SEVERELY DEPRESS CANCER VICTIM.MY QUESTION IS ARE THERE ANY KNOWN MEDICAL REASONS WHICH PATH WOULD BE MORE BENEFICIAL TO PATIENT,KEEP PETS AND BE HAPPIER OR REMOVE PETS AND INCREASE DEPRESSION?

1. Andy77 (410) | 4 years ago | There have been tons of studies that show that people with pets do much better when recovering from cancer treatment. I had cancer 9 years ago and my dog was a lifesaver; he made me laugh even when things got difficult. Chemo is much easier these days and your wonderful pets will give you a reason to live. They need you! They will always be there for you and love you forever. They will help you avoid depression. Try not to worry and take one day at a time. Pet and hug those doggies whenever you can.

People with pets do far better recovery wise than those without. In fact, many medical facilities now have one day a week where pets are permitted during visiting hours because they are so beneficial to the patients. If you love these pets, keep them! (I'm an R.N. and mom to 2 yorkies.)

4. dnatureofdtrain (3935) | 4 years ago | No, No. Removing your pets will not help, however around days of chemo treatments.. making sure they are very clean when around you will.... You have my prayers and thoughts, and I hope you have a good recovery, or have ... Take care...
