How I lost my job due to a dishonest politician and how I came out on top

Now that the lawsuit is over, I can finally talk about this.

Almost 2 years ago, I was the Finance Director for a City. The mayor was up for re-election. He was a horrible mayor and had the City in really bad financial condition. He was, however, creating his own ficticious financial documents showing the City was doing great and running them in his political ads. Finally I felt it was dishonesty on my part to not speak up. I was the one person that knew the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I ran my own and published the true finacials and corrected the mistatements and falsehoods that he had stated. This was done a couple of weeks before the election, but due to early voting he won his bid for re-election. Had the vote been based on those cast on election day he would have lost.

The day after the elections he came into my office and fired me. He refused to give a reason for doing so. I appealed to the city council, but although most felt the firing was wrong, felt it best to go along with the mayor since it was obvious that we (the mayor and I) would not be on freindly terms. I filed a lawsuit against the city, the mayor, and some of the councilmen individually. I won and am now once again being supported by the City, although I am no longer working for them. It's a terrible waste of taxpayers dollars right there. I'm hopeful this will come up in the next election.
