Are The Beatles Cursed? |
| |
| I am a huge Beatle fan, but, sometimes I wonder if they are cursed or if someone sold their soul to the devil or something? Looking at history, the following people who have been associated with the Beatles have had issues or died before their time. John Lennon - shot at 40 years of age George Harrison - Dead at 59 of cancer Julia Lennon(John's Mother) - killed by car at 44 Mary McCartney(Paul's Mother) - Dead at 47 from cancer Brian Epstein(Manager) - Dead at 32 from overdose Mal Evans (Road Manager) - Killed at 40 by Police Neil Aspinall (PA/Exec) - Dead at 66 from cancer Derek Taylor (Publicist) - Dead at 65 from cancer Stuart Sutcliffe(First Bassist) - Dead at 21 from hemorrhage Linda McCartney(Paul's Wife) - Dead at 56 from cancer Mauren Cox(Ringo's First Wife)- Dead at 48 from leukemia Louise Harrison(George's Mother) - Dead at 58 from cancer Billy Preston(5th Beatles) - Dead at 59 Kidney failure? Peter Harrison(Georges brother) - Dead at 66 from cancer It even strange that Brian Jones from the Stones, dead at 27 who had played on the Beatles track "You Know My Name(Look up my number)". Harrison's first wife Patty was unable to have children and Yoko Ono had many issues with pregnacies. Eric Clapton a long time friend of the Beatles, who played on a least one song and many of John's and Georges solo work has himself been plagued with personal tragedies. Ringo Starr was very sick as a child and suffered serious illnesses which resulted in little or no schooling. Then again it could all be coincidence..... | | | | | |

| | Surely though if there was a curse then Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Pete Best would all be dead as well Looking through most of those people the majorit had a decent innings - 50 to 60 years of age is not young, although it is not old either. | | | | | | |

| | Maybe not. It all depends on which(if any) Beatles sold their soul to the devil ;-) | | | |

| | While 50 - 60 isn't 'super young,' it's definitely not old by today's standards, so ... Having reached this age, it gives (one) a whole new prospective on this. | | | |

| | There is no curse.I mean Yoho ono is still around and she's in her 70's.Paul Mccartney and Ringo are still around.George Martin.Paul mccartney's brother Mike. The list goes on and on. One could say a 1970's band like the allman brothers appeared more cursed.Duanne Allman dies of a motorcycle accident in 1971 followed less than a year by the basss player,Barry Oakley also a motorcycle accident on the same street! No.I don't believe in Superstition and there is no such thing as a curse. | | | |

| | Hey bloke, nice to see ya back. Lifestyles might have something to do with it. First of all, just the publicity that the Beatles enjoyed made them targets for the insane. Epstein and Jones were drug overdoses. Cancer often takes people in their 40s and 50s. Still, you make a good point - I don't think they made a deal with the devil though. I've heard of such deals, but I've been low enough at times I might have done so, and never did the guy with horns offer any kind of bargain. | | | | | | |

| | I don't believe in the devil, so, it was tongue-in-cheek. I do think their lifestyle certainly exposed them to more medical risks than normal. The stress with being famous and being associated with the Beatles must have been enormous. How many other bands are/were there where the band managers, producers, engineers and road managers are household names? | | | |

| | Tongue in cheek here also, as I don't believe in a devil. Undoubtedly, it must have been a bizarre event for the managers and technicians and girlfriends of the Beatles, because, like you say, they are almost never in the limelight. But those I've met who tag along with other less known bands often do so for the partying that goes on, and enjoy for awhile the pressure that comes with life on the road or behind the stage or in the studio. It comes at a price, though, in that ordinary people are not equipped, mentally or physically, to deal with that kind of stress. I'm not ruling out something meta-physical, but that would be mere speculation. I heard somewhere the Beatles were an MI6 operation to bewitch American youth. If a deal was struck with those guys, then that may have had something to do with a shorter lifespan than normal. Again, though, that is speculating, and I'm glad I got bewitched at any rate. | | | |

| | The events that happened to them arouses curiosity. I remember there was a time when John Lennon announced publicly that they are more famous than Christ. That might have triggered something like having sold themselves to some misfortunes in their life. That was just a thought when a I read your discussion. I also like the Beatles, specially when they were still a group. | | | | | | |

| | The comment about the Beatles being "bigger" than Jesus was totally throw out of context and it well worth reading what he said, how it was reported and what he meant by it. What I thought was disturbing was that the church, particulary in the Southern US, was able to use this incident to get the young people of America to boycott the Beatles and burn their records etc., all based on something that really wasn't anything! Whatever happened to "free will" and for people to do their own research, instead of following and acting on someone elses beliefs. | | | |

| | Hi justabloke, Wow, that's really a lot of interesting research that you've done. It's hard to say why this is the case, but as is true of life, some people and those connected to them, just seem to sail through relatively unscathed. Tragically, for others, there seems to be trouble, etc., on every hand. Of course, all celebrities leave themselves wide open for stalkers, and nut cases, by virtue of their fame, hence the untimely death of John Lennon. My sixteen year old daughter has become a huge Beatles fan, after seeing 'Across The Universe.' It's really something to see her so involved with music that was a part of my life as a teen. | | | | | | |

| | I didn't really get into the Beatles until I was about 11-12, which was about 4 years after they broke up! I was against them (totally) as my older brother and his friends were always talking and playing their music, which at the time I thought was "dated". It took me listening to "Live At the Hollywood Bowl" album to finally get into them. I only recently got Abbey Road and it's amazing how many of the songs, which I knew, I didn't know! | | | |

| | You ever hear the Paul McCartney conspiracy? That he really died quite awhile ago and the Beatles had a Paul look alike contest.. the winner is the Paul McCartney we know to this very day. You can look it up... there's "clues" in songs and on the album covers, like Paul is usually different than the other 3 in some way. Check it out, it's actually interesting. | | | | | | |

| | I was told by a lay preacher that God gave us our bodies and that he expected us to look after them, this person believed that people who abuse their own bodies are (in his opinion) being disobedent towards God, who only wants us to obey him. Food(no pun intended) for thought? | | | |

| | As I understand it, the selling of souls by musicians to the devil is usually characterized by there being one major death that really comes as a surprise and has to do specifically with the members of the band and their immediate family. So, Led Zeppelin lost John Bonham, their drummer, after being a band for under a decade. Eric Clapton, who some say sold his soul to play the blues so well, lost his son at a very young age. Also, in the case of Zeppelin, I believe Robert Plant's family got into a horrible car accident that killed them, but I don't remember where I heard that. | | | | | | |
