do you check the food labels and its expiration before buying it?

That is a good thing to do. I have to admit I don't on canned items but I have learned by getting old food to look on everything else. I have even gotten chips that were out of date and we had a bunch of people over watching movies and I had made chili bean dip and I tasted a chip and was like oh my gosh this is bad and looked at the date they were out of date. There I sat.. stores closed.. dip done.. people there and nothing to munch on. I was not happy so now I check chips too. I think people would be shocked as to how many things can be out of date that they are buying.

I always check food labels and expiration dates. I wouldn't really want to suffer the consequences of just grabbing items from the shelves without checking it. There are many news here in our country about food and other grocery items that are still on supermarket shelves even if they are way past expiration dates. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

i usually don't check the labels. i know i should, but most the time i forget about it. wow, thats really scary and sad what happened to your mother. i'm going to have to make more of an effort to check the labels. most the times they are fine, but i've noticed that in the discount grocery stores like save a lot and aldi's, there tends to be food that is very nearing the expiration date.

definately i check . Thats very important i mean whats the difference between us and an illitrate person .

My mom always told us to check the expiration date of the food no matter what but at times, I really have a habit of "get and put" it in the cart especially when I am in hurry. As much as possible I check the expiration date because once, I bought a bread, when I went home, my MOM check the expiration date and guess what? "expired 3 days ago" haha... I end up going back to the grocery store and exchange it for a newer one! A lot of work and time wasted! I would have eaten it if my mom didn't check it.

Nowadays ion this busy hour days nobody cares about the expiration nowadays they will only found out when they taste it sour.. when they are home and the thing is opened already..The people that are responsible for that should be the store.. they have to make an inventory about the products that needs to be dispose to avoid the consumers getting sick.

I so sorry that happened to your mom.I once bought some food that was out of expiration and almost eat it.Something told me to just look and I am glad I did look before I eat it or I would have been poisioned.so yes i always check and if it has been in my frig a while I keep a check on the date.Better to be safe then sorry...

Thats a good reminder for me. I used to check previously for every food item i used to buy. but of late i quite did not check and not bothered. this is because of in hurry i suppose. anyway i do need to check on from now..

I always check the dates on everything, you would be amazed how many products in my supermarket are outdated and on the shelves for sale. No matter how much I complain to the manager they still sell them. One day they were selling a package of hot dogs and it was outdated by 2 months, you could even see the color was not right, when I took it over to the manager he looked at it and said "oh the date means it is still good for 2 months later." What an idiot, an expiration date means when it EXPIRES! I reported him to the Department of Health.

That is shocking that something could cause your mum such illness!! How is she now?? I bet she is very weary about food now.
I check the expiry date on product since i wprk in a supermarket store so I know how easily it can be for someone to buy a product that has expired. I dont check food labels though.
