I read an old saying that goes: Give a man a fish and feed him for a day Teach a man to fish and feed him for life. Have you read or heard any old sayings that arent used much anymore? I would really like to hear them.

I have heard that saying plenty of times, jer31558, and almost always from people who are speaking out against doing things for people. In my experiences it has always been a "christian" who doesn't want to help someone in need, saying that teaching them is better than helping. I always wondered why then Jesus said that if a man asks for you coat to give him your shirt as well rather than teach him to sew his own clothes...Just something to think about. As for old sayings, I usually wonder where they originated and why.

I wonder those things as well. I also wonder the same about words..I mean take the word foot. Has it always been called a foot, who first called it a foot, why did he or she call it a foot, and what gave him or her that right.

anyone who uses this statement as a way of not helping others is definitely going aginst the rules because in my opinions it means that you help and also equip them with the things they need to become helpers to others so that by so doing the goodness will be multiplied and more people will be reached so tha you also will move on to help others

i want to say that it is only a man who is seriuos that you teach to fish and you dont have to give fish again,i sauid this because i know a certain man who was given money to start a business twice by his elder brother,he squanderred the money both times ,he is back begging to be fed by the same brother ,what will you say about that?another saying i think is relevant is "it is insanity to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result"i hope this meets your requirements?

Sadly enough, some people arent interested in being taught, only receiving and not giving.

I dont mind helping people if they want to be helped, if they just want a handout, they have to look somewhere else.

I think maybe the idea behind the saying is that a brick outhouse is very well put together and so a well figured woman is said to be very well put together.

A man had to come up with it because no women would ever think to compare a nicely built man to a house full of S***!

"Catch and Release" (2007) - "Catch and Release" (2007) image
I heard it when i watch the movie of Jennifer Garner; "Catch and Release" (2007). The set when the word is saying is when they go fishing.

All of these are old southern sayings. I would like to hear some from the West or other parts of the world.-- Give them enough rope to hang himself. And it's not over till the fat lady sings!

How about "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush"--"You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear." Or "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". Are these what you had in mind?
