I know this polygamy ranch story is all over the place and the stories just keep getting worse and worse, but I found this article interesting.
[i]A child protection supervisor testified Thursday that she encountered several pregnant teen girls at a polygamist ranch who called each other "sister wives" and who believed it was acceptable to be "spiritually united" with a man at any age.
"It was the belief that no age was too young to be married," said Angie Voss, a supervisor for investigation at Texas Child Protective Services.

If you continue reading the article, an investigator that visits the ranch simply says, "It was scary."
What do you think? It any age an OK age to marry or should their be limits? Do these girls seem brainwashed or do they deeply believe it's an OK practice to engage in?

This story is just creepy. I'm sorry but when I see these mothers on the news it kind of reminds me of when I read the book helter skelter. Charles manson had his followers brainwashed. And well seeing these women speak on the news about what is happening to them and their kids, well they just looked brainwashed. At ages when I can still remember playing with barbies these girls are being married and having kids of their own. Well they call it spiritually married because in the state of Texas to marry a child you must have the states consent, it has nothing to do with the parents consent. What makes me even madder is the fact that none of these men are being arrested. They are child molesters and statutary rapists that are getting away with this all because they claim that it is all part of their religion. They should be in jail. Their mothers should also be arrested, this is neglect and child abuse and they are so brainwashed that they let it happen and teach their young children that this behavior is normal. One of the therapists who talked to some of these kids was on a talk show yesterday. He talked about how he talked with a 15 year old girl who was pregnant with her 4th kid. How these people who can think that this is acceptable seriously have something wrong with them. Kids having 3 and 4 kids who are still kids themselves. And lets not even mention the health risks to these young girls who are having babies. Their bodies are still developing and their pregnant with their 3rd and 4th kid.

Yeah, I definitely find it creepy, not to mention scary. Looking back now, I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to be married and pregnant with my third kid at the age or 14. It just seems to strange, foreign. It's even sadder to me that these children think it's ok to. They accept it and pass this idea onto their own children. It's not religion, it's downright a cult and if it's not stopped it's just going to harm many more people.

I believe that it is wrong, very wrong. No child or adult should be made to marry anyone. I don't believe one man should have more than one wife. I think it is rape what they do to those children whether or not the child agrees.
I really am disgusted with the whole idea of how they live. I don't care what religion anyone claims to be... a child is a child until they are an adult.
I'm sure most of the girls and boys think it is okay and the right thing to do. That's how they were raised and probably all they know. I do believe it is a form of brain washing. I am sure there are some children and adults that don't agree with that lifestyle but for various reasons feel they can't leave.
Brightest Blessings, Mari

they are brainwashed, but how is that from deeply believing?
NOWWWW....
In a former age, it was considered quite normal for any gal who was mature enough to have a period was mature enough to marry and have kids. If they weren't mother's by 16 they were looked at with suspicion. This was true right up until the 18th century, and in some places it was practiced right up until the 20th. For all I know, it is still practiced in those areas too.
But that was then, this is now, and it is nolonger acceptable.
