What games or things did you do in lunch break when you were in Primary School?

I think kids today don't have as much fun at school in their lunch breaks compared to when we were kids. It is just an observation of mine. I am a teacher and I see alot of kids bored during their lunch break they do not know how to entertain themselves as easily as we did when we were kids.
So it got me thinking, what fun things did you use to do in your lunch breaks in Primary School. I remember playing elastics, that was fun. Where you jump the elastic, saying, "England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales... We also used to play poles, which is like tiggy and the pole was bar. My friends and I, when in grade 4, sometimes we even climbed Mt Everest, lol. That was a classic, there was this big pile of dirt and sticks and we had to climb it, one of us was the masters and the others were slaves. I was the slave, lol, the master sat back and watched while we fetched sticks from Mt Everest. I know, we had a crazy imagination, lol.
Have you got some funny things you used to do in lunch breaks? Or fun games?

No I do not think that the kids today have as much fun in the playground, I think my boys do a lot of role play at school playing star wars and things like that. We used to play hopskotch and also the elastics and skipping they were really good! We also used to go and sit on the grass and make daisy chains and caterpillars when it was hot weather.

Daisy chains and caterpillars that sounds like fun, I might suggest that to my daugheter when they are bored next. Your kids sound like they still have a great imagination doing role plays, that is really good to hear. Kids learn alot through play. Hopscotch I fogot about that game, we use to do that too, that was alot of fun. You think more kids would still do that today, very rarely do I see young children playing that game. I love playing chinese garter and jackstone after eating my lunch. I remember that I finish my lunch as fast as I can so that I can join my classmates in playing those games. It is really really fun! I always looked up for our lunch breaks before since that is the time on where I could talk to my friends as well. lolz.

I remember some of use played variations of tag. Others were grouped while playing name games. I also recall some of my classmates brought their own toys to play along with other classmates who also brought their own. They'd play or even enact being some character that they have watched on television and play along as happily

Hi cupid, I agree all these gadgets are taking away some kids physical activity, pretty sad. Hide and seek, that was always a fun game to play.

Hi Kiran-when I was at school at playtimes we used to do hop-scotch,skipping swaps which meant you had a reading book but collected pictures of fairies animals etc and then sat in a group and swapped them with someone else that liked yours as long as you wanted on of theirs-that was a good game-also we used to play cards-blessings littleowl

Hi Kiran-it is a shame you don't see half the things we did at school nowadays-as you say skipping is coming back-I found that skipping and Hopscotch were good exercise too

Sounds like you had alot of fun when your were a kid at school. Swapping pictures of fairies and animals would have been great. Don't know why you don't see more kids playing hopscotch these days, skipping is starting to become popular again at schools.

i remember when i am in grade school we did lots of fun. climbing on mango tree its a contest with my co-student the first reached the top would be the winner. we also have game that we called it gira-gira (war) a ball made of coconut leaves, 2 groups of 5 member each hitting each other until no one remain un-hit, if the group has one un-hit, they will be the winner. including jumping on elastic.

Well I think the game I remember the most is red rover... or red light green light lol I wasn't a very inventive child so I just played what everyone else was playing although me and my sister made up a card game and for lack of a better name called it I have to pee because when we were making it up my sister said she had to pee lol!

Have not heard of those games before, sounds interesting.
