Do you place cutlery neatly in their own pile when washing up? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 91/100. muscare (1152)   ranked 175 out of 26,108 in life5 months ago

You know, teaspoons neatly together, tablespoons in a different pile and so on? My wife has a hard time drying the cutlery when I wash, as I toss them into the drainer any way they come out the sink(well, handles all the same way). I don't have a problem with this, as when I dry them myself, it doesn't matter what's in the handful I pick up. Are you very particular with your cutlery like my wife, or don't think it matters all that much?

hi muscare we just handle this like you do, we have a double sink here so one is for washing the dishes and the other one is for putting the washed dishes in so they dry a bit before actually using the kitchen towel. We just put the cutlery into the second sink when its cleaned and pick it out from there.
Only exception are the small kitchen knives so no one gets hurt, they are always on top between the two sinks to dry immediately with a towel when cleaned.

I think doing the dishes is such a chore as it is(actually makes my lower back ache standing at the sink), I don't want to drag it out any longer than I have to by categorizing. A double sink would definitely be handy.

myLot reputation of 97/100. book1962 (9501)   ranked 607 out of 26,108 in life  5 months ago

thats totally understandable. I have problems with a vertebral disc right now and also suffer some lower back aches.
The double sink was my idea, its better than just having one sink and then this space where to put the washed dishes next to the sink. As I rinse my dishes after washing with dishwasher liquid that was the most practical way, so I dont have to pile everything there, empty the sink, refill with clean water and put everything back to the sink again.

I think that is why we 'cheat' sometimes and use paper plates, especially for things like sandwiches.

Hi muscare...no problems with it here..All of it goes in the dishwasher and then I grab whatever and just put it away..The only time they are separate is when they go in the drawer...*smiles*

myLot reputation of 91/100. muscare (1152)   ranked 175 out of 26,108 in life  5 months ago

Lucky you, you have a dishwasher. Hmmm, actually so does my wife. Me, LOL! Sometimes I'm tempted to throw them all in the same compartment in the drawer, just for the reaction, LOL!

myLot reputation of 87/100. Feona1962 (2794)   ranked 569 out of 26,108 in life  5 months ago

Do it...I dare you too!!glare

I am not that fussy about it...It could all go in the drawer together in one clump but with my grandsons I prefer it to be separate so they don't cut themselves on the butter knifes... cool..

One day my 6 year old grandson was helping load the dishwasher and I turned around to put a cup in and here he is sorting the silverware...I was like..oh, no honey, you don't have to sort it, but thank you anyway...sweet little guy... ninja...

Funny, I accidently(honestly) put a fork in the spoon compartment one day, and as my wife has a habit first thing in the morning of placing the spoon in her mouth while she gets her cereal ready, she poked herself with the fork. LOL, ok, ok, I know my sense of humour is a bit warped, but it was funny, and she didn't hurt herself.
Kids are great when they help, or at least think they are helping, and when you have plenty of time to do whatever job they are helping with!

hello muscare,
i have to giggle with your thread, haha just kinda seeing my husband doing the same thing and saying the same lame excuse as you did rolleyes
YES, i do pile everything in ORDER not only in cutlery, but to most everything that goes in the dish washer (big plate next to big plate dont mix em with the small one:)
my husband complains about my OCD and it shows mostly anywhere in our home.
i do everything at home so he have to live with it LOL i dont mess in his office stuff, so i guess we're even!
btw, it is easier to dry up stuff that are the same and they goes directly where they belong (i guess that's girl's lame excuse lol)
to make it short YES in my eyes it matters a lot (so you better make sure the toilet seat is always down happy)
takecare

myLot reputation of 91/100. muscare (1152)   ranked 175 out of 26,108 in life  5 months ago

Hmmm, jairgirl, you sound very much like my wife in regards to certain things. I will say that the plates are different, they should be kept in the same size order. I can see you would have a hard time drying the cutlery here too, and possibly you'd struggle with the dreaded 'Toilet Seat' issue, LOL! Anyway, thanks for sharing!

myLot reputation of 95/100. jairgirl (902)   ranked 324 out of 26,108 in life  5 months ago

hahaha, i think most girls are like your wife and not just me LOL!
great to know we agree on one part (big plates belong to its kind happy)
hahaha, how many are you at home? just you and your son and lot's of cutlery ei? my husband loves ice cream and he will always use tons of it (coz he likes to sneak in many times, lol

btw, i no longer struggle to the dreadful "toilet seat" i give up long time ago, surrender
fact is, he is not gonna listen and i dont want simple stuff like that to ruin my day or night.
he put it up.. i put it down..
i dont complain when he lets it up so dont complain when i let it down, simple!!!

what's with the up anyway? LOL

takecare and pleasure to participate.

I should be so lucky that all women be like my wife. Now that would be a very nice place!!
Nice to see we also agree about the toilet seat as well, and have the same agreement, 'you don't complain, I don't complain!'. As you say, why worry about minor issues anyway. Things like that are better having a joke about!

myLot reputation of 95/100. jairgirl (902)   ranked 324 out of 26,108 in life  5 months ago

hahaha, i have to agree the world will be a much much better place if only all girls are like me and your wife LOL!!!!
i dont let small stuff bothers me and same with my husband, our home is mostly a happy and full of laughter one and for that reason i feel so bless that we dont have to struggle a lot unlike SOME. and it is wonderful to know your family is the same.
a relationship is a lot better if only you have half homer as your husband lol

When I'm washing the silverware I don't sort it except spoons, forks and butter knives all go in one holder and everything else (sharp knives, serving spoons, ect.) all go in the other. All of them go in handles first except the sharp knives.

I'm less particular, but I do keep sharps separate, and I do have handles all up the right way, obviously more for safety reasons.

Nope I dont pile them neatly so does my husband. We have 2 sinks. Normally either one of us will do the dishes after eating so as long as the dishes get wash and clean its the person's job. But if we both do the dishes then one would soap the dishes and the other will rinse+ leave them on the rack to dry. We don't use a piece of cloth and wipe it dry. We just leave em there to dry by itself and when it;s dry I will just keep them back neatly in the cabinet. We also don't have a dishwasher...I think most Asian homes don't have them. We stil do manual washing.

myLot reputation of 91/100. muscare (1152)   ranked 175 out of 26,108 in life  3 months ago

We only have the one sink, so we tend to dry them, and most times we will do them together, but I think my wife would rather wash, but then so do I. I think dishwashers use too much water, and would never have one in my home. We still have the cutlery stacked in their sections of the drawer though.
