what is the freaking deal with gas prices?

Greed plays a big part. There is less competition among the oil companies becaue there are fewer of them. Price is tied more to stock prices than ever before. Some economists believe because the price of oil is tied so closely with the stock market and the majority of oil investors sre american investors and with the economy on the downslide prices will eventually drop.
Plus when the feds cut interest rates there is always the risk of inflation spiralling out of control. The feds believed that was of secondary concern however.

And not only in America. On the other side of the Atlantic despite that the euro-dollar helps to reduce the increases in about 20%, bills are going up without control. Just a couple of years ago it was around 90 cents for a litre of diesel and now it costs about 1.14€, and this country is not one of the most expensive. Italy or the UK have gas higher prices. And heating as well. Gas bill for the two coldest months was close to 300€, same as last year, but this winter was warmer so didn't heat up as much.

i dont think theres an end for this kind of problem cause as you can see, as time passes by, nothings become cheaper, it keeps on getting to a high price... i dont think theres a solution for this and as a consumer, we cant do anything but to purchase...

well, we experience it here as well in australia... the price of fuel had increased so much compare to in the past... it really eats up on my budget... well, i guess i just have to be smarter in managing my money to make ends meet... i wish the government will do something to keep the prices down soon... otherwise, we all will be struggling and no one will want to drive anywhere...
