2. emeraldisle (8978) | 2 years ago | It's a decent play. I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare but he is a good writer. I just think he's pushed on people too much and many teachers seem to think he's the greatest of writers. The play though does have some great scenes in it and it is well written. I think though in some ways it's unrealistic, like the death scenes at the end.
I prefer his historical plays better like "Macbeth" and "Hamlet". The modern versions of "Taming of the Shrew" such as "Kiss Me Kate" and "10 Things I hate About You" were in my opinion far better then the original. The same can be said of "West Side Story" which is a modern version of "Romeo and Juliet"

3. theprogamer (7518) | 2 years ago | Its good and I prefer the original texts better. There is also an anime of this play (known as Romeo x Juliet). It inverts a few of the concepts but the core story is still there.

4. DelicateFlower (274) | 2 years ago | Hmm, tough question. It's definitely a classic, and worth your reading for that, if no other reason. It is often referenced by "educated people" and I always feel better about myself if I know what they are talking about. However, I'd have to admit I do not like it. It's really not about love at all, its a lust story. They don't know each other enough to have real love, that's a relationship thing, you have to get to know the other person's good points and bad to be able to love them despite their flaws. Anyway, do read it, but don't feel badly if you don't really enjoy it. It's frustrating in many ways because of how obviously foolish they are. I read it at 14, and I thought they were the most immature people I had ever heard of. Most of my class thought that too.

10. trulydreaming (106) | 1 year ago | I loved this story. I enjoyed reading it. I actually enjoyed the original Franco Zeffirelli movie released in the late 60's (I think). I remember watching the movie after reading the play for a literature class in High School.
Looking back now, years later (never mind how many years)...I realize just how Shakespeare was "right on" with his description of "young love" and the lessons we can learn. The descriptions (of the emotions); of love; of youth and wanting things "now;" of the friendship between Romeo and Tybalt (is that spelled right?); the dangers of pride; and the senselessness of violence and "looking the other way."
It is a classic piece of literature. It is a story of young love. Like it or not...it is an opportunity to learn some of life's most important lessons!
Hope you enjoy it!
