"The press loves McCain, we're his base" - Chris Matthews, September 10, 2006 They've been proving it every day. http://mediamattersaction.org/freeride/ Here's an excerpt from the article: We live in a "gotcha" media culture that revels in exposing the foibles and hypocrisies of our politicians. But one politician manages to escape this treatment, getting the benefit of the doubt and a positive spin for nearly everything he does: John McCain. Even during his temporary decline in popularity in 2007, the media continued to bolster him by lamenting his fate rather than criticizing the flip-flops and politicking that undermined his media-driven image as a "straight talker." Go here to read the Top 10 McCain Media Myths: http://mediamattersaction.org/freeride/myths/http://mediamattersaction.org/freeride/myths/ Here's the list of the myths, click the above link for details: 1. John McCain is a maverick 2. John McCain is a moderate 3. John McCain is a straight-talker 4. John McCain is a reformer 5. John McCain doesn't do things just because they're politically expedient. 6. Just about all you need to know about John McCain's character is that he showed courage as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. 7. John McCain has too much integrity to use his war record to his political advantage. 8. John McCain is the lobbyist's biggest enemy. 9. The media honeymoon with John McCain is over. 10.John McCain has considerable foreign policy expertise. I seriously hope everyone who thinks McCain would be such a "uniter" and would work well with both parties takes a few moments to actually LEARN something about him. It may be a real eye-opener. There is something wrong with a person when they have myths published about them. Most Rep's I know think he is too far to the left for them and they would rather vote Dem because at least the Dem's realize what their party affiliation is. Whose side is he on?

I don't think HE knows whose side he's on! I guess it depends on where he is and who he's talking to. He said a few days ago he would consider demolishing the Ninth Parish (I think) in New Orleans but two days later he said "I don't remember saying that". As the article I linked to says, the media doesn't question him on anything, usually they make up excuses for him when he makes a gaffe. Annie

I do hope anyone voting for McCain takes a good look at the issues before doing so. Yes he's a war hero and a great man, but McCain of 2004 wouldn't vote for '08 McCain in my opinion. Its unbelievable to me how far he's jumped across the fence on some issues. "I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us at the expense of middle-class Americans who need tax relief."--John McCain, May 2001 McCain voted against the Bush Tax Cuts in 2001,2003,2004,2005 but now is supporting them in 2008 when, thanks to Rudy's brilliant campaign strategy, he had an easier path to the Republican Nomination. It makes sense why all the tabloid news is such a big deal, once you get past that, all you have left to talk about is the issues.

I hope so too, Jormins, but if things continue as they are now they'll really have to do their own homework to learn anything about him other than the sugar-coated stuff the media wants them to know. I'll agree, he is a war hero but I'm not so sure about the "great man" part anymore. Have you heard about him recently saying while in New Orleans that if he'd been President when Katrina hit he'd have immediately brought Air Force One and landed at the nearest airbase and taken a helicopter right to the scene of the greatest devastation. That sounds good, right? Well, guess where he was and what he was doing and with whom he was doing it when Katrina DID hit - he was in his home state of Arizona having his picture taken with President Bush, all smiles and happy-go-lucky, showing off the cake Bush had brought him for his birthday. I don't think he suggested that Bush turn the plane around and head for New Orleans. The fact is, McCain didn't say one word of Bush's handling of Katrina until he'd announced his run for President. Well, I see the left has started their campaign of hit pieces and attacks against McCain. The real eye-opener is that the democrats have no claim as unifiers because they can't even get along with each other.... how can you claim to be a unifier if you can't even unite your own party? The promise of change we got in 2006 was more of the same thing we had with the republicans which was the same thing we had with 40 plus years of the democrats before them.... with the added bonus of the economy going south AFTER the democrats took control of Congress. Since Congress is the ones who handle the Budget and appropriate the funds I can't help but wonder how you can possibly think the democrats are in any position to criticize anyone else, because they have proven themselves to be no better than anyone else. On top of that, the democrats promised to get us out of Iraq if they were elected.... they LIED to the American people. We can look at McCain's character and voting record and we can compare that to the records and associations of both Hillary and Obama, and we can plainly see who has the most experience and depth of character.... and that is neither Obama or Hillary. McCain is not a moderate, he is a straight up liberal and has no business running on a traditional conservative ticket, although we all know how that came about. The way I see it, we got 3 liberals running... the only real difference is the letter behind their names and the fact that one now claims to be against tax increases. McCain is not getting a free ride, what he is getting is ignored while the democrats go through their little drama that occurred because everyone assumed that Hillary would be a sure thing. Even Hillary thought that it was going to be simply a coronation ceremony, but it didn't quite work out that way. As to McCain's Foreign Policy expertise and experience, it is far greater then anything the democrat candidates can claim.... Obama is a 1st term senator and Hillary is only a 2 term senator... and that is the extent of their experience. Hillary's claims are on the basis of being a politician's spouse, and mean exactly nothing. The liberal spin machine has been engaged in attack politics and character assassinations since Bush beat Gore, and now they are determined to do the same thing against first McCain and then the republicans in an effort to further the socialist agenda with George Soros and several others contributing funding and resources in order to further this kind of propaganda. I think it is a pretty sad commentary that the democrats have to stoop so low as to engage in hit pieces and character assassination in order to make their own sleazy candidates look better.

"I think it is a pretty sad commentary that the democrats have to stoop so low as to engage in hit pieces and character assassination in order to make their own sleazy candidates look better." What "character assassination are you referring to here? What attacks have been coming from the liberal spin machine? You say there are 3 liberals running but if you really knew anything about McCain's record you'd know that's far from the truth. As far as your claims against the Democratic Congress you know as well as anyone else does they don't have enough of a majority to override a veto so how could they have accomplished all that they'd wanted to? "Let's start with the BS that MoveOn and the liberal press has been putting out against Bush and the rest of the republicans ever since he has been in office, such as the trash talk about the elections being stolen TWICE and the rest of it... every time Bush opens his mouth some ignorant liberally biased waste of skin tries to portray him as either uneducated, stupid, or dishonest, while conveniently forgetting the fasct that he is no more dishonest than any of the rest, and actually more honest than most of you liberals are." First of all I don't appreciate being called dishonest at all. Also, Second of all every time Bush opens his mouth he shows how stupid and ignorant he is and not only "some ignorant liberally biased waste of skin" sees it. Finally, this is about McCain's free ride, not about Bush. I won't get into the "stolen elections" in this post, it would waste too much time and space. "At least he has never been impeached or convicted of perjury. Don't pretend you don't know because you just make yourself look silly... all that means is that you are in denial." In denial OF WHAT??? "I know enough about McCain's record to be able to call him a liberal, just the same as the rest of the true conservatives do. McCain is neither conservative or even a moderate... he is a liberal. Why do you think the conservatives are so pissed off about McCain?" I don't know why the conservatives are so pissed off at him! He's anti-choice to the point he won't consider a pro-choice running mate, he's all for the Bush tax-cuts and the Bush war, he promises the same type of Supreme Court nominees, he's totally for NAFTA with no changes, he's against health care for all, he says we're better off than we were eight years ago. His record shows the only time he's sided with Democrats has been when he had to pander to his constituents back home and whenever he's done so, of course he's gotten lots of attention from the media because they love to praise him for "reaching across the aisle." "There is one other undeniable fact as well.... while Bush's approval rating may be low, it is about twice as good as what the democratic Congress' approval rating is." Sorry but the Congress as a whole and the Democrats in Congress have a higher approval rating than either Bush or the Republicans in Congress. "Did you also happen to notice that the economy didn't go bad until AFTER the democrats took control of Congress? Congress is the ones who handle the budget... so I would say the democrats are pretty inept all around." Did you happen to notice that when we had Democrat in the White House we had a budget surplus, millions of jobs were created, inflation was almost non-existent and family income increased; what planet have you been on to say the economy didn't go bad until after the Democrats took control? Also, I thought they didn't do anything! Annie
