| Xeon Processors?  | | | |  What is the diffence between Xeon Quad Core and just a regular Quad Core processor like Intel Q6600?
I know Xeon is for servers and such , but what kind of difference does that make. Does that mean Xeon is more reliable?
What would be the downside to running a Xeon processor in lets say a desktop computer? Would it be able to handle tasks that the Q6600 will be able to handle?

| |  If I could interpret correctly what I just read, Xeon processor has a bigger cache size than the regular processors. In plain words, xeon has a bigger brain for data/info processing than the regular one. This extra feature of course come with a different manufacturing process and since Xeon processors are considered hi-end processors, it is only safe to assume that they are more stable than the regular one.
With this in mind, a regular quad core would be easily defeated by xeon quad core in terms of processing speed. The downside of using Xeon for a desktop is its price and what a waste(underrated) for using it only for just ordinary computing. One thing more, not all software programs can use the features offered by xeon, sort of saying the system is not optimize.

| | Cache are sort of internal memory inside the processor it self, the bigger it is the faster it can process data and information. It's like a PC with 256MB RAM as compared to a PC with 1GB of RAM, the later is faster. So with your question, without a doubt it will run faster. | | | |

| | All programs not aware of multi-tasking(threading) wont benefit much* from xeon and even quad core, simply because these programs don't have the necessary codes to access/utilize the extra core. In DIY terms "use the right tools for the right job."
