About four or five years ago, I lost my sense of smell (I have no idea how it happened.)
The only thing I can smell is roses and I'm not sure because I remember the smell or what. I can still taste food, but not very well.
I've not had seizures, done no drugs, and nothing to do with chemicals, my nose isn't stuffy either.
Since I don't have health insurance, I can't go to the doctor about it. I would love to have my sense of smell back, anyone know anything about it?
I'm a 23 year old female.

Some viruses, especially the influenza virus, can irreversibly damage the lining of the nose where the olfactory nerves have their endings. These nerve receptors occupy a very small area near the roof of the nose, and once they are damaged, it may result in either a diminished or a distorted sense of smell. Treatment has been tried with vitamin supplements and zinc but results have been disappointing.
