My daughter decided she wants the lap band surgery

She shocked the daylights out of me the other day just before her doctor appointment (she had a sinus infection). I was mentioning something about the surgery and she piped up and said "mom, I've changed my mind....I want the lap band surgery." I was driving at the time and almost hit the curb I was in so much shock. I guess she has been looking it up on the internet and reading about it. And that's when she changed her mind. She is 17 now, and she will turn 18 mid August. So the nurse at my doctor's office is setting things up with the hospital where I had my surgery done, and she is trying to get things set up with a psychiatrist that is covered by our insurance. At least this way, my daughter will be covered by the insurance even if the surgery happens after she turns 18. She is so excited! Nervous, but still excited. But I think I'm more excited than she is at the moment. LOL! We get to be skinny together! Yaaaayyyyyyy!!

I know alot of ppl are raving about the lap band but think I'll just stick to the reg. way. How have you been since the surgery? Is it working? Lost any weight yet? I'd be nervous as well just having to go thru any type of surgery. Give her a big hug from me and jump up and down for me with her in excitement. lol Now i gots another prayer to send up. The good Lord above is prolly going crazy with all the prayers that need to be tended to.

Yeah, but I bet He's loving it that we are calling on Him all of the time instead of trying to do things ourselves. I'd jump for you, but I think I would hurt myself. I do my cheering from the easy chair instead....safer that way. LOL! I've lost 49 lbs so far, as of this morning! Wooohooooo! Skinny jeans, here I come....eventually. Hugs!

You can jump right from your chair. Just recline back with your legs straight out. Then pull them toward you and back down again. See? Jumping horizonally. -giggling- WOW!! You are losing the weight.....wooooooooohooooooooooooooooo You go girl!!! hmmmmmmmm........wait a min here..should I be getting jealous now? After all, your losing weight and I'm not.

You can bet I will be posting updates. I've lost 49 lbs as of today. I haven't measured myself for a while, but I know I've lost a lot of inches too, because I can now fit comfortably into a pair of my jeans that I couldn't even button about a week and a half ago. Yaaaayyyyyy! Hugs to you sweetie.

We're both hoping that this will help with the pain in her knees and ankles. So I guess she IS doing because it's necessary....at least to us anyway. Love you too hon.

Well good luck to you and your daughter and hopefully all goes well. I happy for you both. I know where I live I can get the gastric bypass surgery but not the lap band.

Thank you so much hon. That's so strange that they allow for one surgery but not the other. Sometimes the politics of the insurance companies are so confusing! Hugs!

I am surprised. Did I read wrongly or is there any hidden meaning which I know not of? Lap band surgery - I thought is for the severely obese and is not meant of any one who just need to lose weight?

That's what the lap band and the gastric bypass are for...for those who are at least 100 lbs over weight. And believe me, for both the patients go through rigorous tests, including a psychiatric evaluation to make sure that they are ready for it. For most of us, it's a last resort when nothing else has helped with the weight loss.
