Walking around a cemetery that was started in the early 1800's |
| |
| We went over the weekend to Fernley NV and I walked to a cemetery that was started in the 1800's well at least that was the oldest headstone I would read. There was a lot of wooden grave markers that where no longer readable. Some of the headstones where quite pretty and somewhere very simple I loved all of them. This cemetery is not kept up but I found a lot of history. A few of the head stones told us where the person was born. Some came from Ireland and some came from Scotland. One was the shape of a baby bed with a teddy bear in it. The baby was only a few months old when died. I only walked around 1/4 of cemetery. I did not have time to go back. I will be going back to NV and finishing my walk. While walking in the cemetery I felt all the peoples sorrow that was there. I did say a prayer for all that had passed through those gates, which had to bury a loved one. I also prayed for the spirits who where still lingering to follow the white light and pass on. Does anyone else love to walk around cemeteries? Do you feel the sorry or pick up on the spirits of the dead? | | The gates of Fernley Cemetery. | | | | |

| | I'm not in the habit of walking around cemeteries, but I did one time many years ago and it was a bit of a history lesson and a bit personal too. Okay bit of a story to explain. I have lived in this neighborhood nearly all my life, and there are two churches a bit of a walking distance near me...one is the Dutch Reformed Church that was built in the late 1700s. Well one time I was doing a geneaology thing. My great-grandmother's brother's wife married a woman with the last name of Debevoise...and old dutch family name and that family came here to New Amsterdam (New York) in 1659...I had done some reading about the Debevoise family and knew they had settled all over the NY area in Brooklyn mainly but here in the county of Queens where I live. So I don't know why but one day I went walking in the small cemetery at the Dutch Reformed church and my mouth gaped open as there were headstones with the Debevoise names on them...they were really very old, hardly legible and in the Dutch language, but since I knew a bit of German was able to translate the words as both languages are fairly similar. So it wasn't so much I felt sorry about the long dead ancestors of my family but rather intrigued...I mean here was a bit of family history right under my nose so to speak all these years and I never had known about it until then | | | | | | |

| | Wasn't it neat to learn so history? I love to go walking around cemeteries. I love to read what people have on their head stones. I love to see the difference in headstones and the dates faninate me also. It was out history. I do not want to be buried underground but I do want to have a marker for someone to know that I lived once. I would like to be creamated and have an urn in a mosoleum so someone can see that I did live. I know that is strange | | | |

| | You're like me..I want to be cremated also. Thinking about cemeteries in general and maybe "vibes'" on might pick up on, I bet the cemeteries that have, say those soldiers that fought in wars, like the Civil war must feelings that one can pick up on...be interesting to go to them, don't you think? Talk about history! | | | |

| | I have not had a chance to look up some of the names I read at the cemetery. Have you actually felt any spirits or met any spirits? I have not done any rubbings because I was not prepared to do anything like that. I did not bring any paper of penciles. I only had Petie and my camera and my cane. lol | | | |
